Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Display Assembly Replacement

Warning: Damaged or bent frames can lead to uneven pressure damage on the new screen.

  • Ensure you have the correct replacement part, as some screens come pre-installed in a new frame.
  • Prepare for challenging initial opening due to strong adhesive and curved edge.
  • Repeat heat and pull cycles until adhesive loosens.
  • Wear eye protection and apply screen-protector or tape if your screen is badly shattered.

Note: Separating the display from the frame usually destroys the display, so only follow this guide to replace the display.

Insert a SIM eject bit, SIM card opening tool, or a paperclip into the small hole on the top edge of the phone, located within the long rectangular cutout.

Make sure to insert it into the correct hole — pressing in an incorrect location can cause damage.

  • Press in the opening tool to eject the tray.
  • Remove the SIM/SD card combo tray from the phone.

Step 2 | Rear Glass

Step 2 image

Waterproof seals will be compromised when opening your phone; prepare replacement adhesive beforehand to prevent water exposure during reassembly.

  • Apply an iOpener to a long edge of the phone for about two minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • Reheat and reapply as needed, but follow the iOpener's instructions to avoid overheating.

When using alternative heat sources (e.g. hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate), be cautious not to overheat the OLED display or internal battery, which are prone to heat damage.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Apply caution when handling hot components.

  • Warm the back panel until it's warm to the touch.
  • Attach a suction cup near the heated edge, avoiding the curved section.
  • Apply strong tape or superglue if back cover is cracked for better adhesion.

Lift the suction cup and carefully insert an opening pick under the rear glass.

Due to the curved design, apply pressure perpendicular to the phone's surface.

Reapply heat as needed to soften the adhesive, which cools quickly.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Reheat and reapply iOpener to soften the adhesive.

  • Make sure your pick is still firmly in place within the glass.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Slide the opening pick along the side of the phone, separating the adhesive.

  • Go slowly to avoid the tip slipping out of the seam.
  • If sliding becomes difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.
  • Leave the pick in place and grab a second pick for the next step to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6

Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis.

  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel adhesive backing off new rear glass, align one edge against the phone chassis, and firmly press onto the phone.
  • If reinstalling old back cover or using non-adhesive back cover, follow this guide.

Do not install new adhesive without testing your repair first.

  • Remove large chunks of existing adhesive to ensure proper fit.
  • Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover (note: phone will not be waterproof).

  • Disconnect the daughterboard ribbon cable using the flat end of a spudger.
  • Remove the motherboard.

Step 22

Step 22 image

Apply iOpener to top edge of display and wait for it to become warm.

  • Be careful not to overheat, as this can cause damage to the OLED display and internal battery.

  • Reapply heat as needed until the adhesive softens.

Alternative heating methods include using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. However, be cautious not to overexpose the phone to heat.

While waiting for the adhesive to soften, proceed to the next step and read through it carefully to plan your prying points.

Step 23

The capacitive buttons and ribbon cables are fragile and require extra caution.

  • Remove the strong double-sided tape from the copper surface.
  • Be careful not to damage the capacitive buttons, which must be reused for this repair.
  • Gently pry the display assembly edges away from the foam adhesive strips.
  • Take extreme care when handling the ribbon cables to avoid breakage.

If either of the capacitive buttons or ribbon cables are damaged, you can replace the daughterboard assembly with new parts.

Step 24

Step 24 image

Apply a suction cup near the top edge of the display, avoiding overlap with the speaker grill.

  • If your display is severely cracked, apply strong tape to help lift it.
  • Lift the display on the suction cup to create a small gap at the top edge.

Be prepared for significant force and repeat the heat-suction-lift procedure as needed.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, limiting insertion depth to 0.25 inches.
  • Expect multiple attempts due to strong adhesive; follow iOpener heating instructions and repeat the process until a pick is in place.

Step 25

Step 25 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge for 2 minutes.

  • This will help loosen the remaining adhesive.
  • Proceed with caution, as the adhesive may still be sticky.

Step 26
