Warning: Damaged or bent frames can lead to uneven pressure damage on the new screen.
Note: Separating the display from the frame usually destroys the display, so only follow this guide to replace the display.
Insert a SIM eject bit, SIM card opening tool, or a paperclip into the small hole on the top edge of the phone, located within the long rectangular cutout.
Make sure to insert it into the correct hole — pressing in an incorrect location can cause damage.
Waterproof seals will be compromised when opening your phone; prepare replacement adhesive beforehand to prevent water exposure during reassembly.
When using alternative heat sources (e.g. hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate), be cautious not to overheat the OLED display or internal battery, which are prone to heat damage.
Apply caution when handling hot components.
Lift the suction cup and carefully insert an opening pick under the rear glass.
Due to the curved design, apply pressure perpendicular to the phone's surface.
Reapply heat as needed to soften the adhesive, which cools quickly.
Reheat and reapply iOpener to soften the adhesive.
Slide the opening pick along the side of the phone, separating the adhesive.
Continue heating and cutting the adhesive around the remaining three sides of the device, leaving an opening pick in place on each side before moving to the next.
Remove the glass cover by carefully lifting it off the phone.
Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis.
Do not install new adhesive without testing your repair first.
Remove the 12 x 3.5mm Phillips screws.
Locate the small notch at the lower left of the upper antenna.
Pry the upper antenna out using this notch.
Remove the wireless charging coil by lifting it out of the phone.
Remove the loudspeaker by lifting it out of the phone.
Disconnect the battery connector using the flat end of a spudger.
Disconnect the display cable using the flat end of a spudger.
Disconnect the power button cable by inserting the pointed end of a spudger.
Disconnect the red and white antenna cables with the pointed end of a spudger.
Disconnect the home button connector using the flat end of a spudger.
Disconnect the front-facing sensory array cables using the pointed end of a spudger.
Disconnect the volume button cable using the pointed end of a spudger.
Do not lift the motherboard fully — it remains connected via a cable.
Apply iOpener to top edge of display and wait for it to become warm.
Be careful not to overheat, as this can cause damage to the OLED display and internal battery.
Alternative heating methods include using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. However, be cautious not to overexpose the phone to heat.
While waiting for the adhesive to soften, proceed to the next step and read through it carefully to plan your prying points.
The capacitive buttons and ribbon cables are fragile and require extra caution.
If either of the capacitive buttons or ribbon cables are damaged, you can replace the daughterboard assembly with new parts.
Apply a suction cup near the top edge of the display, avoiding overlap with the speaker grill.
Be prepared for significant force and repeat the heat-suction-lift procedure as needed.
Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge for 2 minutes.
Slide a opening pick along the top edge of the display, avoiding depths over 0.25 inches.
Inserting the pick too far may damage the front-facing camera or earpiece speaker.
Repeat heating and cutting procedure for long phone edges.
Be cautious of the display cable located above the right side midpoint, which may interfere with your pick if prying too deeply.
Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner of the device.
This technique helps prevent damage to the capacitive button's cable.
Once the adhesive is cut, leave the pick in place to avoid resealing.
Insert an opening pick into the bottom left corner.
Be careful not to damage the display cable when prying open the phone.
Carefully lift the display assembly away from the midframe.
Adhesive residue on the frame can cause installation issues.
A bent frame or remaining glue/glass fragments can damage the new display.
