Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Battery Replacement

Disassembling a charged lithium-ion battery is hazardous — risk of fire and explosion if punctured.

  • Discharge the battery below 25% before proceeding.
  • Puncture hazard: If your battery is swollen, take precautions or seek professional help.

The back cover's strong adhesive may require multiple heat and pull cycles to loosen — be patient.

  • Use a dropper or syringe with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol around the edges, if needed.
  • Avoid applying direct heat to the phone.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding or take precautions against liquid exposure during reassembly.
  • Heat an iOpener and apply it to a long edge of the phone for about two minutes.
  • If necessary, reheat and reapply the iOpener several times until the phone is sufficiently warm.
  • Use alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate) with caution to avoid overheating, which can damage the OLED display and internal battery.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Phone's back cover must not be cracked — suction cup will not stick.

  • Apply a suction cup close to heated edge of phone (avoid curved part).
  • If suction cup fails, try using strong tape or superglue it in place and allow to cure.

Lift suction cup and insert an opening pick under rear glass; note that due to curved design, you will be pushing up rather than inserting parallel to phone's surface.

  • Apply more heat if needed to soften adhesive and try again.
  • The adhesive cools quickly, so repeated heating may be necessary.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Reheat and reapply the iOpener to soften the adhesive.

  • Firmly hold the pick in place while waiting for the adhesive to soften.

Step 4

Slide the opening pick along the phone's side, gently prying apart the adhesive.

  • Proceed slowly to maintain contact with the seam.
  • If separation becomes difficult, reapply heat and try again.

Do not remove the pick yet; it will help prevent the glue from re-adhering.

Insert a second pick for the next step, leaving the first one in place.

Continue heating and cutting the remaining three sides.

  • Apply heat and cut along each remaining side, working one side at a time.
  • Leave an opening pick on each side before moving to the next, preventing the adhesive from resealing.

Lift glass screen gently to prevent damage.

  • Remove glass screen from phone casing.

Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from phone's chassis.

  • Clean adhesion areas with isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel off new rear glass backing and align one edge against the phone chassis.
  • Firmly press the glass onto the phone's chassis.

Do not skip phone power-up and functionality testing after installation.

If reinstalling old back cover, refer to additional guidance.

Step 8 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Locate the small notch on the lower left of the upper antenna.

  • Pry the upper antenna out of the phone using the notch.
  • Remove the upper antenna.

Step 10

Remove the wireless charging coil from the phone.

  • Lift the coil out of its mounting position.
  • Disconnect any connectors attached to the coil.

Remove the loudspeaker from the phone by lifting it out.

Step 12 | Battery Disconnect

Disconnect the battery connector with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 13 | Battery

Step 13 image

Excessive use of isopropyl alcohol can cause damage to the display.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it directly to the battery for several minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, apply 1-2 drops of high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol under each corner of the battery and allow it to penetrate for at least several minutes.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Do not apply excessive force or use metal tools on the battery.

  • Apply firm, constant pressure to the battery using an opening pick from the bottom.
  • Pry carefully against the case above the daughterboard and antenna cables.
  • Reheat and reapply the iOpener as needed to soften the adhesive.

Avoid deforming the battery, which can lead to chemical leaks or fire/explosion risks in soft-shell lithium-ion batteries.

Do not reuse a removed battery as it poses a potential safety hazard.

  • Lift the battery out of its case.
  • Wait ten minutes for isopropyl alcohol to completely evaporate if used before proceeding.

Always replace an old battery with a new one.

  • Follow this guide for installing a new battery and adhesive.
