Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Front Camera Replacement

This guide explains how to install a new front camera on your Samsung Galaxy S7 Active.

Step 1 | Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Disassembly

Risk of burns: never handle a hot device with your bare hands.

  • Apply heat to the screen using a blow dryer, carefully avoiding damage to the display.
  • Once heated, gently pry off the screen, taking care not to press on any internal components.

Waterproof integrity may be compromised upon reassembly.

  • Insert a metal spudger between the screen and frame to start separating them.
  • Using multiple metal spudgers can aid in prying the screen away from the sealing adhesive.

  • Slide the metal spudger around the phone at least once.
  • Apply a blow dryer to facilitate easy movement of the metal spudger.

Hold the screen firmly and lift it upwards.

Remember to wash your hands afterwards with hot water and soap.

Step 5 | Battery

Remove the screw with a Phillips #000 screwdriver.

Use tweezers to carefully remove the small plastic cover.

Remove the secondary plastic cover with a pair of tweezers.

Remove the eleven screws (marked in the image) using a Phillips head #000 screwdriver.

Disconnect the marked pieces using tweezers.

Use tweezers to carefully remove the middle button and its associated cable from the motherboard.

Use a metal spudger to pry the mid frame and battery away from the motherboard.

Remove the battery using a spudger.

Step 13 | Rear Camera

Disconnect the front camera using tweezers.

The connector will separate when pressed in like a Lego piece.

Step 14 | Motherboard

Remove the screw covering the proximity sensor using a Phillips 000 screwdriver.

Remove the proximity sensor with a pair of tweezers.

Do not touch any other components or you may cause damage.

Set the removed component aside temporarily.

Disconnect the front mic, then use tweezers to release the two marked cables.

Position the magnetized screwdriver at the midframe clips and gently pry them loose.

  • Lift the midframe off the phone using both hands, taking care not to damage the screws or clips.
  • Use a magnetized screwdriver to remove any remaining midframe screws.

Be careful not to pinch yourself with the metal spudger.

Step 18 | Front Camera

Flip the motherboard over to access the rear of the camera connector.

  • Locate the camera connector on the motherboard.
  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully remove the connector from the front camera.
