Samsung Galaxy S6 Screen Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing only the display on your Samsung Galaxy S6, preserving the original frame, logic board, and battery.

  • The display assembly consists of an AMOLED panel and digitizer.
  • The components are fused, so they must be replaced together.

Note: Some replacement screens come pre-installed in a new frame; ensure you have the correct part to avoid transplanting all internal phone components.

  • If the original frame is damaged or bent, replace it before installing the new screen to prevent damage from uneven pressure.

Removing the rear glass destroys its adhesive; reinstall it using a separate guide if necessary.

Step 1 | SIM Card

Clean the microwave thoroughly before proceeding to avoid gunk adhering to the iOpener.

  • Place the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves:
    • Ensure the plate spins freely to prevent overheating and burning of the iOpener.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Do not attempt to heat the iOpener above 100 ̊C (212 ̊F) as it may burst.

Never touch a swollen or overheated iOpener.

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for thirty seconds, adjusting time based on your device's wattage.
  • The iOpener is ready when it's just too hot to touch lightly with your bare skin.
  • Throughout the repair, reheat the iOpener as needed for an additional thirty seconds in short intervals.
  • A properly heated iOpener should stay warm for up to ten minutes.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Avoid touching the iOpener center as it may cause burns.

  • Hold the iOpener by one of its flat ends.
  • Use an oven mitt if handling to ensure safety.

Step 6 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 2

Using boiling water can cause severe burns — handle with extreme care.

  • Fill a pot or pan with enough water to fully submerge an iOpener.
  • Heat the water to a boil, then turn off the heat source.
  • Submerge the iOpener in the hot water for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use tongs to carefully remove the heated iOpener from the water.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.
  • When handling the hot iOpener, grasp only by the end tabs to avoid burns.

The heated iOpener is now ready for use. To reheat, repeat these steps as needed.

Step 7 | Rear Glass

Step 7 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding, or take care to avoid liquid exposure when reassembling without it.
  • If glass is shattered, cover the panel with packing tape for safe removal.

The adhesive around the edge of the glass may require repeated heating and reheating.

  • Apply the heated iOpener to the rear panel for two minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • Shift the iOpener to heat another section of the panel for another two minutes, as needed.

When using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, be cautious not to overheat and damage the OLED display or internal battery.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the hot rear glass.

  • Lift on the suction cup to create a small gap underneath the rear glass.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • (Optional): Add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol into the gap to weaken adhesive.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the rear glass.

Leaving the pick inserted can help prevent re-adhesion of the separated glue.

  • Re-heat the rear glass as needed to keep the adhesive liquid and prevent hardening.
  • Once heated, proceed with a second pick.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis.

  • Clean adhesion areas with at least 90% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Swipe in one direction only, avoiding back-and-forth motion.
  • Remove adhesive backing from new rear glass and align one edge against the phone's chassis. Press firmly onto the phone.

If reinstalling old rear glass or using adhesive-less rear glass, consult this guide instead.

Step 13 | Midframe Assembly

Step 13 image

Remove thirteen Phillips #00 screws with a diameter of 3.5mm.

  • The screws secure the midframe to the phone.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 3

Ensure the SIM card tray has been ejected.

  • Firmly grasp the edge of the midframe assembly.
  • Lift up on the midframe while pushing down on the battery to separate the two components.

Avoid snagging the midframe on the audio jack or charging port.

  • Run an opening pick around the edges of the phone to fully separate the top of the midframe.
  • Avoid inserting the pick between the glass and display.

Remove the top of the midframe first, then push down on it to disengage from the headphone jack.

If necessary, heat the edges of the display with an iOpener and apply to soften the adhesive for easier separation.

Step 15
