Any debris on the microwave floor can adhere to the iOpener.

Position the iOpener in the center of the microwave.

  • In carousel microwaves, ensure the plate rotates smoothly. Sticking can cause overheating and damage.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Do not overheat the iOpener (above 100°C/212°F), as it may burst.

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for 30 seconds, adjusting time based on your microwave's wattage.
  • The iOpener is ready when it's barely too hot to touch.
  • As needed, reheat the iOpener in 30-second increments throughout the repair procedure.

Do not touch a swollen or overheated iOpener.

  • If still too hot to touch, continue using it while waiting for it to cool down.
  • A properly heated iOpener should stay warm for up to 10 minutes.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Be cautious when removing the iOpener from the microwave as it will be extremely hot.

  • Remove the iOpener from the microwave using one of the two flat ends to avoid touching the center.
  • Use an oven mitt if handling the iOpener is uncomfortable due to its heat.

Step 4 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Be cautious when handling hot iOner.

  • Fill a pot or pan with enough boiling water to submerge an iOpener.
  • Turn off heat and let it sit for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use tongs to carefully remove the heated iOpener from the pot.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.
  • Hold the iOpener by the end tabs only, as it will be very hot.

To reheat, repeat steps 1-4.

Step 5 | Rear Glass

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding, or take care to avoid liquid exposure upon reassembly.
  • Apply packing tape over shattered glass panels to hold them together during removal.

Do not attempt repair without proper precautions against water damage.

  • Lay the heated iOpener over the rear panel for two minutes, targeting the edge of the glass.
  • Reheat and reapply as necessary to achieve adequate temperature.

Avoid overheating when using heat tools:

  • Use caution with a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, as they can cause heat damage to the OLED display and internal battery.
  • Shift the iOpener or heat tool to target remaining sections of the panel for an additional two minutes.

Heat the rear glass until it's hot to the touch.

  • Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge and lift.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
    • Optional: Add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol for extra adhesive weakening.

Step 7

Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the rear glass.

  • Leave the pick in place, then grab a second pick for the next step.
  • If necessary, re-heat the rear glass to prevent the glue from cooling and hardening.

Re-heating may be required multiple times to maintain optimal working time for the adhesive removal process.

Step 8

Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis with tweezers.

  • Clean the adhesion areas with isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only.
  • Peel the adhesive backing off of the new rear glass and align one edge against the phone chassis.
  • Firmly press the glass onto the phone, ensuring proper fit and alignment.

Reinstalling old glass or using glass without pre-installed adhesive requires following a separate guide.
