Clean the microwave thoroughly before proceeding to avoid residue sticking to the iOpener.

  • Place the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves: Ensure the plate spins freely to prevent overheating or damage.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Do not attempt to heat the iOpener above 100 ̊C (212 ̊F), as it may burst.

  • Heat the iOpener for 30 seconds in a microwave, adjusting time based on wattage.
  • The iOpener is ready when just too hot to touch lightly.
  • As needed, reheat the iOpener for 30 more seconds during repairs.

Do not handle a swollen or excessively hot iOpener.

If still too warm to touch, use it while waiting for it to cool down further before reheating.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Be extremely cautious when handling the iOpener as it may still be very hot after heating.

Hold the iOpener by one of its flat ends to avoid direct contact with the hot center.

  • Use an oven mitt if additional protection is needed when handling the iOpener.
  • Remove the heated iOpener from the microwave carefully.

Step 6 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Step 6 image

Careful handling is required as the iOpener will be extremely hot.

  • Fill a pot with enough boiling water to submerge an iOpener.
  • Turn off the heat and place an iOpener in the water for 2-3 minutes, ensuring full submersion.
  • Use tongs to remove the heated iOpener from the water.

The iOpener will be very hot; handle it only by the end tabs.

Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel before use.

To reheat, repeat the process of boiling water and 2-3 minutes submersion.

Step 7 | Rear Glass

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals; have replacement adhesive ready or take care with liquid exposure.

  • If the glass is shattered, cover it with packing tape for removal.
  • Lay a heated iOpener over the rear panel for two minutes to loosen the edge adhesive.

You may need to reheat and reapply several times to avoid overheating.

  • Shift the iOpener to heat remaining areas for another two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate – but be careful: excessive heat can damage the OLED display or internal battery.
