Removing the rear glass will destroy its adhesive and may require reinstallation steps found in a separate guide.
Careful not to apply excessive pressure, which can harm the SIM card tray.
Locate and pull out the SIM card tray.
Clean the microwave thoroughly before proceeding, as debris on the bottom can adhere to the iOpener.
Do not overheat the iOpener above 100°C (212°F) as it may burst.
Heat the iOpener in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Reheat the iOpener every 10 minutes during the repair procedure, warming it up in 30-second increments as needed.
If the iOpener appears swollen or is too hot to touch, do not use it until it has cooled down.
The iOpener should stay warm for up to 10 minutes after heating.
Careful handling required: The iOpener will be extremely hot.
Fill a pot or pan with enough boiling water to submerge an iOpener.
The iOpener will be very hot, handle it carefully by the end tabs only.
Thoroughly dry the iOpener with a towel before use.
Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.
Apply heated iOpener to rear panel edge for approximately two minutes to loosen adhesive.
Be cautious when using alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate) to prevent damage to OLED display and internal battery.
Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass when it's hot.
Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the rear glass.
Leaving the pick inserted may help prevent re-adhesion of the separated glue.
Apply the heating and cutting procedure to all sides, except the one you have already accessed.
Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis with tweezers.
If reusing old glass, or using non-adhesive rear glass, consult this guide for additional instructions.
Remove thirteen 3.5mm Phillips #00 screws securing the midframe.
Ensure the SIM card tray has been ejected.
Avoid snagging the midframe on the audio jack or charging port.
Be cautious not to insert the pick between the glass and display.
Remove the top of the midframe first to avoid damaging the headphone jack.
If necessary, apply heat and an iOpener to soften the display adhesive for easier separation.
Use your hands or a flat tool, such as a plastic spudger, to carefully lift the midframe assembly away from the other components.
Disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.
Avoid bending the battery, which could release hazardous chemicals.
Do not pry against the motherboard or you may damage the phone.
Never reinsert an old battery in the phone, this poses a significant safety risk.
Disengage the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antenna cables using the pointed end of a spudger.
Disconnect the home button connector using the flat end of a spudger.
Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully disconnect the display assembly cable from the motherboard.
Disconnect the earpiece speaker assembly cable connector from the motherboard.
Separate the camera-side end of the motherboard from the display frame.
If the board is hard to lift, ensure it's fully disconnected and not caught on ribbon cables.
Do not remove the motherboard yet; it remains attached via a ribbon cable under the board.
Disconnect the daughterboard ribbon cable using the flat end of a spudger.
Badly cracked display glass requires protective tape before prying.
Insert the opening pick in the battery-side edge of the phone, at an upward angle.
If you see the pick through the glass, it means you've applied too much pressure; remove the pick and start again.
Stop before reaching the daughterboard to avoid damaging the capacitive button underneath.
Leave the pick in place to prevent the display from re-adhering to the frame.
Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone from the headphone jack to just past the charging port.
Do not insert the opening pick more than 0.25 inches (~6mm) to avoid damaging the home button.
Insert an opening pick about 0.5 inches (~12mm) under the bottom corner of the display near the headphone jack.
The ribbon cable is fragile and can be easily damaged.
If the cable starts to stretch or the pick is hard to insert, apply additional heat.
Insert an opening pick on the side of the phone opposite the battery and slide it along the edge to loosen the adhesive.
Do not remove the pick until you have completed the repair, as re-adhesion may occur otherwise.
Use a opening pick to carefully pry the battery side of the frame away from the display.
Do not remove the display completely yet, as the display cable is still threaded through the frame.
Route the display flex cable through its hole in the frame.
Remove all old adhesive traces from the frame, taking care to avoid small glass fragments.
Secure the new screen with custom-cut double-sided tape applied to the back of the screen.
Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully lift the earpiece speaker assembly from its mounting point on the display frame.
Lift the assembly out with tweezers once it's been pried loose.
Use a spudger to carefully lift the vibrator out from under the display assembly.
Disconnect and remove the vibrator.
Remove the 3.0mm Phillips #00 screw holding the daughterboard to the display frame.
Flip the display frame over so the home button is facing you.
Be careful not to rip these delicate cables when peeling them off the plastic frame.
Flip the frame over again, then carefully lift up the daughterboard to remove it from the display frame.
Handle the home button ribbon cable with care, as it is prone to tearing.
Insert the pointed tip of a spudger into the gap and gently coax the home button cable out through the display frame.
Hold the display frame upside down.
Insert the spudger under the cable and gently pry it away from the frame.
Locate the tab on each side holding the home button in place.
Remove the home button.
