Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Rear Glass Replacement

This repair guide can be used to replace a damaged rear glass panel on your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or access internal components by removing it. Be aware that taking out the rear glass will break its adhesive seal. Follow these steps for proper reinstallation of the rear glass.

  • This guide was tested on a non-Edge model, but the process remains identical.
  • Ensure you obtain and use genuine S6 Edge adhesive, matching it to what came off the original panel as the shown type may differ.

Step 1 | iOpener Heating

Cleaning the microwave is recommended before using the iOpener to prevent gunk from adhering to it.

  • Position the iOpener in the center of the microwave.

For carousel microwaves, ensure the plate spins freely to avoid overheating and burning the iOpener.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Do not overheat the iOpener above 100 ̊C (212 ̊F) as it may burst.

  • Heat the iOpener for thirty seconds in the microwave.
  • Reheat the iOpener in thirty-second increments if it cools during the repair procedure.
  • The iOpener is ready when it's barely too hot to touch, but do not wait for it to cool completely before reheating.
  • If the iOpener appears swollen or still feels extremely hot in the middle after heating, do not use it until it has cooled down further.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Hold the iOpener by a flat end only.

  • Be aware that the iOpener is extremely hot.
  • Use an oven mitt for added protection if needed.

Step 4 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Be careful when handling hot iOner.

  • Fill a pot with enough boiling water to submerge an iOpener.
  • Turn off the heat, then place an iOpener in the hot water for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use tongs to carefully remove the heated iOpener from the pot.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.

Hold only the end tabs, as the iOpener will be very hot.

The iOpener is now ready for use. To reheat, repeat these steps.

Step 5 | Rear Glass

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding to avoid liquid exposure during reassembly.
  • If glass is shattered, cover the entire panel with packing tape to hold it together during removal.

Apply the heated iOpener to the rear panel for 2 minutes to loosen edge adhesives.

  • Repeat heating and reapplying the iOpener as needed, following its instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Shift the iOpener to heat remaining panel sections for additional 2-minute intervals.

Alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate) may be used, but exercise caution to avoid overheat damage to OLED display and internal battery.

Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass when it's hot.

  • Lift on the suction cup to create a small gap underneath the glass, then insert an opening pick.
  • Optional: Add isopropyl alcohol drops into the gap after inserting the pick to weaken adhesive in subsequent steps.

Step 7

Slide a picking tool along the bottom edge of the phone to separate the adhesive holding the rear glass in place.

  • Leave the pick in place for added support, then grab a second one as you move on to the next step.
  • Re-heat the rear glass when needed to prevent the adhesive from cooling and hardening.

Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis with tweezers.

  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth. Swipe in one direction only.
  • Peel the adhesive backing off of the new rear glass, then align one edge against the phone chassis. Firmly press the glass into place.
