Do not insert the tool into the microphone hole, as this may cause damage.

  • Insert a paper clip or SIM eject tool into the hole in the SIM card slot.
  • Press to eject the SIM card tray, following the outlined edge of the tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray from the phone.

Step 2 | iOpener Heating

Clean the microwave first to avoid gunk on the iOpener.

  • Place the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves, ensure the plate spins freely to prevent overheating.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Do not exceed 100 ̊C (212 ̊F) when heating the iOpener.

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  • Reheat as needed during the repair, adding 30 seconds at a time, until the iOpener is no longer too hot to touch.
  • Never touch the iOpener if it appears swollen or overheated.

  • Continue using a warm iOpener throughout the repair, as long as it does not exceed safe temperatures.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Be extremely cautious when removing the iOpener from the microwave as it may still be very hot.

  • Hold the iOpener by one of its flat ends, avoiding direct contact with the center.
  • Use an oven mitt to protect your hands if necessary.

Step 5 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Step 5 image

If no microwave is available, follow these steps to heat your iOpener in boiling water.

  • Fully submerge an iOpener in a pot or pan filled with enough boiling water.
  • Turn off the heat and let it sit for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use tongs to carefully remove the heated iOpener.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.
  • Be cautious when handling the extremely hot iOpener, only touching the end tabs.

The iOpener is now ready for use. If reheat is needed, repeat these steps: heat water to a boil, turn off the heat, and submerge the iOpener for 2-3 minutes.

Step 6 | Rear Glass

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Prepare replacement adhesive before proceeding, or take care to avoid liquid exposure if reassembling without replacement.
  • If glass is shattered, cover the entire panel with packing tape for removal.

Using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may cause damage to OLED display and internal battery.

  • Place heated iOpener over rear panel for two minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Reheat iOpener as needed to achieve temperature, following instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Shift iOpener to heat remaining section of panel for another two minutes.

Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass when it's hot.

  • Lift on the suction cup to create a small gap underneath the glass.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Optionally, add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to the gap for weakened adhesive.

Step 8

Slide a pick along the phone's bottom edge to cut through adhesive securing the rear glass.

Leaving the pick in place may help prevent re-adhesion of the separated glue.

  • Re-heat the rear glass as needed, before proceeding.
  • Prepare a second pick for use in the next step.

  • Use an opening pick to carefully slice through any remaining adhesive.
  • Once cleared, remove the rear glass.

Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis.

  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only.
  • Peel off new rear glass backing, aligning one edge against the phone chassis, then firmly press the glass into place.

If reinstalling old rear glass or using adhesive-less rear glass, refer to additional instructions.
