Insert a paper clip or SIM eject tool into the hole in the SIM card slot on top of the phone.

  • Avoid inserting the tool into the microphone hole, as this could cause damage.
  • Press firmly to eject the SIM tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM tray from the phone.

Step 2 | iOpener Heating

Step 2 image

Dirty microwave interiors can damage the iOpener. Clean the microwave thoroughly.

  • Position the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves, ensure the plate rotates freely to prevent overheating or burning of the iOpener.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Do not attempt to heat above 100 ̊C (212 ̊F).

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for thirty seconds.
  • Reheat as needed, allowing an additional thirty seconds each time, throughout the repair procedure.

Overheating may cause the iOpener to burst.

  • The iOpener is sufficiently heated when barely too hot to touch.
  • A properly heated iOpener will stay warm for up to ten minutes.

Never touch a swollen or very hot iOpener.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Avoid touching the hot center when removing the iOpener from the microwave.

  • Hold the iOpener by one of its flat ends to minimize contact with the hot center.
  • Use an oven mitt if handling the very hot iOpener is necessary.

Step 5 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Careful handling required: The heated iOpener will be very hot.

  • Fill a pot with enough boiling water to fully submerge an iOpener.
  • Turn off the heat and let the water stand for 2-3 minutes with the iOpener submerged.
  • Use tongs to carefully extract the heated iOpener from the water.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.
  • Holding only by the end tabs, your iOpener is now ready for use.
  • If reheating, repeat the process.

Step 6 | Rear Glass

Step 6 image

Opening your phone compromises its waterproof seals.

  • Prepare replacement adhesive before proceeding, or avoid liquid exposure during reassembly.
  • If glass is shattered, cover the panel with packing tape to hold it together during removal.

Use caution when heating the phone: OLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

  • Lay the heated iOpener over the rear panel for 2 minutes to loosen edge adhesive.
  • Reheat and reapply as needed; follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Shift the iOpener to heat remaining sections (2 minutes each).

Alternative heat sources: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. However, be careful not to overheat the phone.

Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass when it's hot.

  • Lift on the suction cup to create a small gap underneath the rear glass.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • (Optional): Add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to help loosen the adhesive in following steps.

Step 8

Slide a pick along the bottom edge of the phone, cutting through adhesive.

Leaving the pick inserted can help prevent re-adhering glue.

  • If necessary, reheat the rear glass to keep glue from hardening.
  • Prepare a second pick for the next step.

Step 9

  • Repeat the heating and cutting process for each side.
  • Under each edge, leave a pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Peel away any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis with tweezers.

Avoid cross-contamination when cleaning — swipe the cloth in one direction only to prevent spreading debris.

  • Clean the adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel the adhesive backing off of the new rear glass and firmly press it onto the phone, aligning one edge with the chassis.
