Never insert the tool into the microphone hole — risk of damage.

  • Insert a paper clip or SIM eject tool into the SIM card slot's hole on top of the phone.
  • Press to eject the SIM tray.
  • Remove the SIM tray from the phone.

Step 2 | iOpener Heating

Any debris on the bottom of the microwave may adhere to the iOpener.

Place the iOpener in the center of the microwave.

  • For carousel microwaves: Ensure the plate spins freely to prevent overheating and burning the iOpener.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Never touch a swollen iOpener to avoid burns.

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for thirty seconds.

  • Note: Time may vary depending on your microwave's wattage.

  • The iOpener is ready when it's almost too hot to touch.

  • Do not overheat the iOpener, as this can cause it to burst.

  • Reheat for an additional thirty seconds if the iOpener cools during the repair.

Do not exceed 100 ̊C (212 ̊F) when heating the iOpener.

  • A properly heated iOpener should stay warm for up to ten minutes.

  • Continue using a hot iOpener while waiting for it to cool down further if needed.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Be cautious when handling the extremely hot iOpener after microwave use.

  • Hold the iOpener by one of its flat ends to avoid contact with the hot center.
  • Wear an oven mitt if you need extra protection when handling the iOpener.

Step 5 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Be cautious of extreme temperatures — handle the hot iOpener carefully.

  • Fill a pot or pan with enough boiling water to fully submerge an iOpener.
  • Turn off heat after bringing water to a boil.
  • Soak an iOpener in the hot water for 2-3 minutes, ensuring it's fully submerged.
  • Use tongs to carefully extract and dry the heated iOpener with a towel.
  • Reheat as needed by following these steps.

Step 6 | Rear Glass

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals. Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding.

  • Careful: If reassembling without replacing adhesive, avoid liquid exposure.

For shattered glass, cover with packing tape to hold together during removal.

  • Lay the heated iOpener over the rear panel for about two minutes to loosen edge adhesive.
  • Avoid overheating: Reheat and reapply as needed according to the iOpener instructions.

Shift the iOpener to heat remaining panel area for another two minutes.

  • Caution: Alternative heating methods (hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate) risk damage to OLED display and internal battery; use with care.

Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass when it's hot.

  • Lift on the suction cup to create a small gap underneath the glass.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Optionally, add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol for extra adhesive weakening.

Step 8

Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the rear glass.

  • If necessary, re-heat the rear glass to prevent the glue from cooling and hardening.
  • Leave the pick in place for the next step or insert a second pick to maintain tension on the separated glue.

Avoid allowing the glue to cool and re-adhere, as it may require re-heating to separate again.

Step 9

Continue the heating and cutting process for the remaining three edges.

  • Apply a separate opening pick to each edge, ensuring the adhesive doesn't reseal.

Ensure all adhesives are completely removed before installing new rear glass.

  • Use tweezers to remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis.
  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only.

Install new rear glass by peeling off backing and carefully aligning one edge against the phone's chassis. Firmly press the glass into place.
