A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured, so discharge below 25% before disassembling your phone.
Do not heat your phone or attempt this procedure without proper caution. If unsure, consider professional assistance.
The rear glass will be removed in this process; follow reinstallation instructions found at the end of this guide.
Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole in the SIM card slot.
Avoid the microphone hole, as inserting the tool there may cause damage.
Clean the microwave thoroughly before proceeding to prevent gunk from sticking to the iOpener.
For carousel microwaves: Ensure the plate spins freely to prevent the iOpener from overheating and burning.
Do not attempt to heat the iOpener above 100 ̊C (212 ̊F), as overheating may cause it to burst.
Do not handle the iOpener if it appears swollen or feels extremely hot in the middle.
Be extremely cautious when removing and handling the iOpener, as it will be very hot.
Do not attempt to heat your iOpener without water — risk of burns or electrical damage.
Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.
If glass is shattered, cover the panel with packing tape during removal.
Apply the heated iOpener over the rear panel for about two minutes.
Reheat and reapply as needed to warm the phone sufficiently. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat the phone - damage to the OLED display and internal battery is possible.
Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass when it's hot.
Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the rear glass.
Leaving the pick inserted can help prevent the glue you just separated from re-adhering, as it may try to reform.
Repeat the heating and cutting process for the remaining sides, using a separate opening pick under each edge to prevent re-adhesion.
Use a opening pick to carefully cut through any remaining adhesive.
Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis using tweezers.
Use proper care when handling the glass, as excessive force or pressure may cause damage.
Apply pressure to the rear of the battery, then gently pry apart the midframe along its edges.
Disconnect the battery ribbon cable using the flat end of a spudger.
Disconnect the home button ribbon cable from the motherboard.
Disconnect the antenna interconnect cables using the pointed end of a spudger.
Use the flat end of the spudger to disconnect the display ribbon cable from the motherboard.
Locate the earpiece ribbon cable and carefully disconnect it from the motherboard.
Motherboards are ESD sensitive components — handle with care.
Locate and carefully disconnect the daughterboard ribbon cable from its connector on the motherboard's underside.
Risk of explosion or chemical leakage: never apply excessive force to the battery.
Do not use metal tools or excessive force when prying, as this may damage the battery or expose hazardous chemicals.
Do not reuse a removed battery, as it poses a potential safety hazard.
Always replace the battery with a new one for optimal performance and safety.
Properly align the new battery to avoid damage or electrical issues.
