Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Volume Buttons Replacement

  • This repair guide will help you access and fix the volume buttons on your phone.

Step 1 | SIM Card

Insert plastic opening tool into the pivot on the side of the SIM tray.

Pry open the tray to remove it from the socket.

Locate and remove the SIM tray containing the SIM card.

Apply heat to the front face (sides, top, bottom) of the phone using an iOpener, a hair dryer, or a heat gun for 60 seconds.

  • If using an iOpener, microwave it for 30 seconds before applying.

Attach suction cup to lower half of screen.

Excessive force can damage the display.

  • Use a suction cup to gently pull the lower panel.
  • Apply gentle pressure only; avoid breaking the display.
  • If resistance persists, reheat the area with the iOpener and retry.

Insert a plastic opening tool between the glass and the frame, at the bottom edge.

  • Slide the tool along the edges, prying the display away from the body.
  • Pry gently to avoid damage.

Risk of damage: do not lift the entire screen, only the lower half.

  • Use the suction cup to gently pull down the lower half of the screen.
  • Hold down the phone frame with one hand while pulling the suction cup with the other.
  • The lower part of the screen is connected by a clip to the top of the motherboard and can be damaged if pulled too hard, so proceed carefully.

Remove the small clip covering the screen connection using tweezers.

  • Grip the clip at the crease on its side.
  • Pull the clip out gently.

Undo the screen connector using a plastic tool.

Disconnect the display cables from the motherboard.

  • Remove the display bezel screws.
  • Gently lift out the display assembly (LCD and Digitizer) as a single unit.

Step 11 | Battery

Remove the 16 4mm screws from the frame using a PH000 Phillips Head Screwdriver.

Apply gentle pressure to the top, bottom, and sides of the phone to release the rear case.

  • The clips should begin disengaging as you apply pressure.

Remove the rear case by pulling it away from the frame.

  • The battery is located on the back side of the frame.

Insert plastic opening tool into the side of the frame.

Pull the battery out.

Remove the battery from the frame.

Step 16 | Motherboard

  • Undo each connection on the motherboard using a plastic tool.
  • There are typically three connections to be removed.

Insert spudger flats end under motherboard, twist to lift.

  • Disconnect the motherboard from the rear case.

Step 19 | Volume Buttons

Apply gentle pressure to the top, bottom, and sides of the phone with your fingers.

  • Top: Press firmly but carefully.
  • Bottom: Apply similar pressure as on the top.
  • Sides: Gently pry apart using your fingertips.

Insert a plastic tool into the gap between the frame and the plastic cover.

  • Slide the tool around the phone to separate the components.

Remove the plastic cover to access the phone's internal components.

Use a plastic prying tool to insert it between the phone's frame and the back cover, starting from the top right corner.

Leave the plastic tool inserted for volume button connection access.

Use a plastic tool to carefully pry open the black and beige cover over the volume button connector.

Remove the volume button ribbon cable from the phone's frame, leaving only the contacts intact.

Be gentle when pulling the cable — excessive force may cause damage or tear.

Do not attempt to pull the phone's body together while removing the cable.

Insert tweezers under the contact points to break the connection.

Remove the voltage button bracket using the tweezers.

Locate the volume buttons on the plastic cover.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to gently push the volume buttons out of their frame.

Remove volume buttons from the frame.
