Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Power Button Replacement

This guide provides instructions for accessing and replacing the power button

Step 1 | SIM Card

Insert a plastic opening tool into the pivot on the side of the SIM tray.

  • Pry open the tray to remove it from the socket.

Remove the SIM tray containing the SIM card from the phone.

Heat the front face of the phone with the iOpener, a hair dryer, or a heat gun for 60 seconds to loosen adhesive.

  • If using an iOpener, heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds first.

Attach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen.

Be cautious not to apply excessive force, as this may damage the display.

  • Use a suction cup to gently remove the lower half of the panel.
  • If resistance persists, repeat Step 3 with extended iOpener application time.

  • Insert a plastic opening tool between the glass and the phone's frame at the bottom.
  • Gently pry the display away from the body using the plastic tool, sliding it around the screen.

Do not pull too hard on the lower half of the screen, as it may tear away from the top of the motherboard.

  • Hold down the phone frame with one hand.
  • Use a suction cup to gently pull down the lower part of the screen.

Identify the small clip covering the screen connection near the top of the phone.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to grasp the clip at its crease and gently pull it outwards.

Disconnect the screen connector using a plastic tool.

Remove the display assembly, which includes both the LCD and digitizer components.

Step 11 | Battery

Remove the PH000 screwdriver and use it to unscrew the 16 4mm screws holding the frame in place.

  • Apply gentle pressure to the top, bottom, and sides of the phone.
  • You may hear the clips releasing as they come apart.

  • Pull out the rear case until the clips pop.
  • Separate the case from the frame that holds the battery.
  • The battery will be on the back side of this frame, take care not to damage any surrounding components.

Locate the plastic opening tool and insert it into the side of the frame.

  • Pull the battery out from its housing.

Disconnect the battery and remove it from the frame.

Step 16 | Motherboard

Undo all motherboard connections using a plastic tool.

  • Remove three connections.

Insert the flats end of the spudger beneath the motherboard, then twist it to lift the board.

Remove the motherboard from the rear case.

Step 19 | Power Button

Apply gentle pressure to the top, bottom, and sides of the phone to pry it away from the plastic casing.

Insert a plastic spudger into the gap between the frame and the plastic cover.

  • Slide the spudger around the phone to carefully separate the two components.

Remove the plastic cover from the phone.

Insert plastic tool at top left corner, between phone frame and back cover.

Step 23

Leave the plastic tool inserted to access the power button connection.

Be careful not to damage the ribbon cable when prying the power button ribbon cable

  • Pry up the power button ribbon cable with tweezers until only the contacts remain attached.
  • Avoid applying too much force, which can cause the cable to rip off completely.

Insert tweezers under contact points and gently release connection.

Remove the power button bracket using a pair of tweezers.

Step 27

Locate the power button on the plastic cover.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to push the power button out of its frame.

Step 28

Disconnect and remove the power button from its mounting bracket.
