Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Motherboard Replacement

This guide explains how to remove and replace the motherboard in your phone, providing access to other components, including the front camera, power button, and volume button.

Step 1 | SIM Card

  • Poke the SIM tray with a fingernail or a plastic opening tool.
  • Gently pry the tray open to release it from its socket.

Locate and remove the SIM tray containing the SIM card from the phone.

Apply heat to the front face (sides, top, bottom) with an iOpener, hair dryer, or heat gun for 60 seconds.

  • If using an iOpener, heat it in a microwave for 30 seconds first.

Attach a suction cup to the lower half of the screen.

Be gentle when removing the lower panel to avoid breaking the display.

  • Use a suction cup to gently pull down the lower half of the panel.
  • If you encounter resistance, leave the iOpener on for longer and repeat this step.

Insert a plastic opening tool between the glass and frame, near the bottom.

  • Slide the tool around the screen to pry the display gently away.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure to avoid damaging the screen or other components.

Risk of damage: do not apply excessive force.

  • Hold down the phone frame and use the suction cup on the lower screen half.
  • Lift only the lower part of the screen, avoiding the clip connecting it to the motherboard.

Identify the small clip covering the screen connection.

  • Use tweezers to grasp the clip at the crease on its side.
  • Pull the clip out to expose the screen connection.

Disconnect the screen connector with a plastic spudger.

Remove the display assembly, which includes both the LCD and digitizer.

Remove sixteen PH000 screws from the frame using a Phillips Head Screwdriver.

  • The screws are each 4mm in length.

  • Apply gentle pressure to the top, bottom, and sides of the phone.
  • You will hear the release of the retaining clips.

Remove the rear case by pulling it away from the battery frame.

  • The battery is located on the back side of the battery frame.

Insert plastic opening tool into the side of the frame and pull out the battery.

Remove all motherboard connectors using a plastic tool.

  • Disconnect the first PCIe connector.
  • Remove the second SATA connector.
  • Undo the third USB connector.

Position the spudger with the flat end facing down under the motherboard.

  • Pry the board upwards by twisting the spudger

Disconnect the motherboard tray screws and gently pull out the motherboard from the rear case.
