Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport Motherboard Replacement

Screen damage and replacement are possible when removing the front panel due to water-resistance.

  • Remove the front panel, including the plate underneath, first.
  • This will allow safe access for motherboard removal.
  • Be prepared for potential screen damage and replacement costs.

Step 1 | Battery

Use the notch at the top to remove the back casing of the phone.

Damage to the battery can cause physical injury and/or harm to the phone.

  • Lift up the battery using a plastic spudger or fingernail.

Step 3 | Screen

When handling electronics, always use an ESD-safe tool to prevent accidental damage.

  • Use a plastic opening tool or Nylon spudger to gently pry up the screen after adhesive melting.
  • Avoid using a Metal spudger unless absolutely necessary due to risk of device damage.
  • This water-resistant phone's screen is not repairable without causing breakage.

Avoid touching the LCD screen with your face or eyes, risk of injury from sharp edges.

  • Check if the plastic cover has separated from the LCD screen.
  • If so, use a nylon spudger to carefully remove both components.
  • Beneath the upper right corner of the LCD screen, locate the connecting ribbon.
  • Avoid damaging its connection to the motherboard with your tool.

Step 5 | Front-Facing Camera

Remove all screws from around the plate.

Apply gentle pressure to the battery compartment.

  • Push the plate outward.

Use tweezers to carefully remove the camera module from its socket at the top of the device.

  • The module should come out relatively smoothly, so be gentle but firm when handling it.

Step 8 | Motherboard

Apply finger pressure to the battery compartment. Push the plate outward.

Locate the metallic caps connecting the pink and white wires to the motherboard.

  • Pull gently on each cap to release the wires.

Pull the black connector straight up using tweezers.

Remove the motherboard from its mounting points.

  • Lift it straight up and out of the phone.
