Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Rear-Facing Camera Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing the rear-facing camera on a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini device.

Step 1 | Rear Panel

Insert a fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the slot above the power button.

  • Pull the panel gently off the back of the phone.
  • The plastic snaps will make a popping sound as they separate.

Step 2 | Battery

Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the slot at the bottom of the battery.

  • Pry the battery away from the phone with gentle care.
  • To replace, ensure contacts are aligned and press lightly. The battery may appear to fit in multiple directions; do not force it.

Step 3 | Display Assembly

  • Lay the phone face down on a flat surface with the back facing you.
  • Disconnect the home button cable using a spudger or plastic opening tool.
  • For reassembly, insert the home button cable connector into the display assembly slot.
  • Use an iOpener to carefully loosen the adhesive beneath the display.

Flip the phone over so it is face down.

  • Insert a plastic opening tool between the screen and frame, along the right side of the phone, to loosen adhesive.
  • Lift the display assembly away from the frame until there's a small gap. Leave an opening pick at the bottom right corner next to your home button.
  • Insert a second opening pick and slide it up to the top left corner, loosening adhesive beneath the display without inserting more than 1/8 inch.

Be careful not to harm any components with the opening pick.

Reheat the display using the iOpener, focusing on the top and left side.

Insert a fourth opening pick and slide it to the lower left corner next to your home button.

  • Flip the opening pick in the top right corner to lift the display.
  • If the display is still sticky, move all four picks around the frame to find any remaining adhesive.

Do not remove the display assembly from the frame as it remains connected by a cable.

Step 7

Remove the display flex connector using a spudger.

  • Keep the top portion of the display assembly next to the frame.

Use a suction handle to lift the display off your phone.

  • The home button cable connector should go with the display through a small gap in the mid frame.
  • If it doesn't, use a tweezer to help guide it.

Be careful not to damage any cables during removal.

  • Pull the display assembly away from the phone to completely remove it.

Step 9 | Interior Midframe Assembly

Remove 12 Phillips screws #00 with a diameter of 4 mm from the midframe.

Flip the phone over and place it face down on a flat surface.

  • Remove the 4mm Phillips #00 screw adjacent to the battery slot.

Step 11

Use a blow dryer or an iOpener to loosen the adhesive on the midframe.

  • Circle the midframe for 10-30 seconds with the blow dryer.

Apply uniform pressure to the battery slot on the back of the phone using a gentle yet firm touch.

  • Target the area where the two midframes meet, separating them carefully.
  • Avoid applying excessive force or uneven pressure to prevent damage or bending of the midframe.

Step 13 | Motherboard Assembly

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the daughterboard to the motherboard assembly.

  • Pry the daughterboard from its socket using a plastic opening tool or spudger.
  • Use tweezers to carefully pull out the cables connecting the daughterboard from the motherboard.

Step 14

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the motherboard to the frame.

  • Pull the motherboard away from the frame, then place it on a flat surface.

Step 15 | Rear-Facing Camera

Use a plastic opening tool or spudger to carefully pry off the rear-facing camera.
