Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Front-Facing Camera Replacement

  • Remove and replace the front-facing camera in your Samsung Galaxy S5 mini using this guide.

Step 1 | Rear Panel

Insert a fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the slot above the power button.

  • Pull the panel off the back of the phone.
  • The plastic snaps will make a popping sound as they separate.

Step 2 | Battery

Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the slot at the bottom of the battery.

  • Gently pry the battery away from the phone to avoid damaging the connectors.

  • When replacing, align the contacts and press lightly. Do not force the battery in place, as it may appear to fit multiple ways.

Step 3 | Display Assembly

Flip the phone over with the back facing upwards on a flat surface.

  • Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to disconnect the home button cable connector.
  • Be careful not to damage the cable when prying it loose.

For reassembly, insert the home button cable through the open slot in the display assembly.

  • Use an iOpener to loosen the adhesive beneath the display.

Flip the phone over so it's lying on its back.

  • Insert a plastic opening tool or opening pick in the space between the screen and frame, and slide along the right side to loosen adhesive.
  • Gently lift the display assembly away from the frame until there's a small gap, leaving one pick in the bottom right corner next to your home button.
  • Insert a second opening pick and slide it up to the top left corner by loosening adhesive beneath the display.

Do not insert the opening pick more than 1/8 inch, as there are some components that can be harmed.

Use an iOpener to heat the display, focusing on the top and left sides.

  • Insert a third opening pick near the top left corner, taking care not to damage the front camera or loudspeaker.

Do not remove the display assembly from the frame as it may be stuck due to remaining adhesive.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick and position it in the lower left corner next to the home button.
  • Flip the top right corner opening pick upwards to lift the display, if necessary.
  • Reposition the opening picks around the frame as needed to ensure remaining adhesive is removed.

Next to the frame, keep the top portion of the display assembly in place.

  • Use a spudger to unplug the display flex connector.

  • Lift the display off using a suction handle.
  • The home button cable connector should pass through the mid frame gap.
  • If stuck, use a tweezer to assist.

  • Pull the display assembly away from the phone to remove it completely.

Step 9 | Interior Midframe Assembly

Remove the 12 x 4mm #00 Phillips screws from the midframe.

Place the phone face down on a flat surface.

  • Locate the 4 mm Phillips #00 screw near the battery compartment.
  • Unscrew this screw.

Step 11

Use a blow dryer or an iOpener to loosen the midframe's adhesive.

  • Circle the midframe for 10-30 seconds with a blow dryer.

Apply even pressure to prevent midframe damage or bending.

  • Pose magnifying glass over battery slot on phone's back to guide separation.
  • Carefully apply force between midframes, starting at the battery slot.

Step 13 | Motherboard Assembly

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the daughterboard.

  • Use a plastic opening tool or spudger to gently pry the daughterboard loose.
  • Employ tweezers to carefully pull out the connecting cables.

  • Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the motherboard.
  • Pull the motherboard away from the frame and set it aside on a flat surface.

Step 15 | Front-Facing Camera

Remove the front-facing camera with a plastic spudger.
