Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Rear-Facing Camera Replacement

Step 1 | Rear Case

  • Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the divot at the top of the rear-facing camera.
  • Gently pry and twist to remove the flexible rear cover from the back of the phone.

Step 2 | Battery

Locate the recess at the bottom right corner of the battery.

  • Pry open the battery using a fingernail or plastic opening tool, lifting it upwards.
  • Gently pull the battery away from the phone to remove it completely.

Remove the SIM card by hand.

Step 4 | Display

Ensure all removable components, including battery, SIM card, and MicroSD card, are removed to prevent damage from heat.

  • Read the heat gun manual for safety procedures to avoid harm to yourself or the device.
  • Hold the heat gun approximately 2-3 inches away from the phone and apply heat to loosen display adhesive.

Insert guitar pick into gap between display and phone case, starting at top-left corner.

Prying the display can damage the delicate metal connector at the bottom.

  • Insert a pick near the top edge of the phone as shown in the diagram.
  • Pry the display downwards around the edge, being careful not to apply too much pressure.

If you encounter resistance, stop prying and reapply heat before continuing.

Sliding a pick through the phone, use it to gently pry the display's sides and bottom.

  • Lift the screen slightly using a guitar pick.
  • You may also choose to remove the home button.

Slightly lift the upper end of the display assembly.

Do not remove it entirely yet — connector is still attached.

  • When reusing the home button flex cable, handle it carefully to avoid severing from the home button.
  • Note: Adhesive may cause the cable to rip apart; if so, fingerprint scanner will be disabled.

Careful handling is required when working with internal components.

  • Lift the front panel assembly cable connector using a guitar pick, pinching it straight up off its socket on the motherboard.
  • After disconnecting the cable, carefully pull out the front panel assembly.

Remove all Phillips #0 screws with a Phillips 0 screwdriver.

Locate the battery compartment at the back of your phone and gently push it upwards.

  • The compartment is typically where the battery is housed, and will have a distinctive grey finish.
  • Apply gentle pressure to pop the compartment out.

  • Proceed with the section containing the motherboard.
  • Discard or set aside the secondary component for future reference or disposal.
