Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Motherboard Replacement

Be aware of tool hazards and follow safety procedures before beginning the motherboard removal process.

  • Prepare a set of tools: guitar pick, heat gun, tweezers, screwdriver, and plastic opening tools.
  • Remove most phone components, including those requiring caution due to sensitive nature.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Insert fingernail or plastic opening tool into the divot.

  • Pry gently at an angle, then twist to loosen the rear cover.
  • The flexible rear cover should now be removable from the back of the phone.

Step 2 | SIM Card

Remove the SIM card using your fingers.

Step 3 | Battery

Locate the recess at the bottom right corner of the battery.

  • Use a fingernail or a plastic opening tool to insert into the recess and lift upward.
  • The battery should now be freed from its compartment. Remove it away from the phone.

Step 4 | Display

Ensure the battery, SIM card, and MicroSD card are removed beforehand, as they may be damaged by heat.

  • Use a heat gun at a distance of 2-3 inches from the phone to apply heat and loosen display adhesive.
  • Follow heat gun safety procedures in its manual to avoid harm.

Insert a guitar pick between the display and phone case at the top-left corner.

Insert the pick into the indicated area and slide it in the direction shown.

  • Pry around the edge of the phone to avoid damaging the metallic strip at the bottom of the screen, which connects the display to the motherboard.
  • If resistance is encountered, stop prying immediately and reapply heat before continuing.

Insert pick into phone and slide through to pry sides and lower part of display.

Stop if you encounter resistance and reapply heat before continuing.

Use a guitar pick to gently lift the screen.

  • You may also choose to remove the home button.

Hold the upper end of the display assembly in place, avoiding any damage.

  • Keep the front panel attached by its connector.
  • When reusing the home button flex cable, be cautious to avoid damaging it from the home button.

Adhesive can cause the cable to tear, which will disable the fingerprint scanner functionality.

Safely lift the front panel assembly using a guitar pick.

  • Lift the cable connector straight up off its socket on the motherboard.
  • Remove the front panel assembly from phone.

Step 11 | Rear-Facing Camera

Remove all 12 Phillips #0 screws with a Phillips 0 screwdriver.

Locate the battery compartment and push upward on it gently.

  • Push from the back of your phone, where the battery is located.
  • The large gray piece, which is the SIM ejector tool, should pop out.

Remove the other piece from the assembly and retain it for future reference.

  • We will only be working with the half containing the motherboard.

Disconnect the rear-facing camera from the motherboard using either your finger or a plastic opening tool.

Remove the rear-facing camera from the motherboard with your fingers.

Step 16 | Disconnect the Proximity/Light Sensor

  • Use a plastic opening tool or your finger to disengage the proximity/light sensor from the motherboard.

Step 17 | Remove the Proximity/Light Sensor

Remove the proximity/light sensor with your fingers or use tweezers for delicate parts.

Disconnect the 3-button ribbon cable from the motherboard using your finger or a plastic opening tool.

Disconnect the blue wire as indicated in the accompanying image, using a plastic opening tool.

Verify that the motherboard has been properly disconnected.

  • The removed motherboard should now be visible and easy to handle.
  • Compare it visually with the provided image to ensure correct removal.
