Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Front-Facing Camera Replacement

Be aware that removing the front-facing camera requires multiple tools, including a guitar pick, heat gun, tweezers, screwdriver, and plastic opening tools.

  • Familiarize yourself with the safety guidelines for each tool before proceeding.

Step 1 | Rear Case

  • Insert a plastic opening tool into the divot above the rear-facing camera.
  • Pry and twist the flexible rear cover gently to remove it from the phone's back.

Step 2 | SIM Card

Remove the SIM card with your fingers.

Step 3 | Battery

Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the recess at the bottom right corner of the battery.

  • Lift the battery upward.
  • Remove the battery away from the phone.

Step 4 | Display

Remove the battery, SIM card, and MicroSD card before proceeding to avoid damage.

  • Use a heat gun at an approximate distance of 2-3 inches from the device.
  • Apply heat to loosen up the adhesive in the display.

Follow heat gun safety procedures as indicated in its manual to prevent harm to yourself or the device.

Insert a guitar pick between the display and phone case, starting at the upper left corner.

Prying at the display may damage the thin metallic strip connecting the display to the motherboard.

  • Slide the pick into the phone as shown to pry the display, working around the edge of the device.
  • If resistance is met, stop prying and reapply heat before continuing.

Slide a pick through the phone's casing, using it to gently pry the display's sides and lower portion.

Stop immediately if resistance is met; apply additional heat before continuing to pry.

Lift the screen with the guitar pick.

  • You may also choose to remove the home button.

Do not remove the upper end of display assembly yet.

  • Lift the upper end of display assembly slightly but do not separate it completely.
  • The front panel remains attached via a connector, so do not fully remove it at this stage.

When reusing home button flex cable, handle with care to avoid severing the cable from the home button.

Adhesive can cause damage, potentially ripping the cable away from the home button.

Dislodge the front panel assembly cable by carefully prying it upwards with a guitar pick's sharp tip.

  • Make sure to lift the connector straight off its socket on the motherboard.
  • Next, safely remove the front panel assembly from the phone.

Step 11 | Front Camera

Remove the Phillips #0 screws using a Phillips 0 screwdriver.

  • There are 11 screws in total.
  • Carefully set aside all removed screws to avoid losing them.

Locate the battery compartment on the back of your phone.

  • Push up on the compartment until it pops out, releasing the large gray piece.

Proceed to work with the piece containing the motherboard.

  • Select the part shown on the right in the provided image.

Disconnect the front-facing camera using your finger or a plastic opening tool.

Remove the front camera by carefully pulling it out with tweezers.
