Samsung Galaxy S4 USB Board Replacement

  • USB Port Board Replacement: This guide is for replacing the faulty USB port board in your Samsung Galaxy S4.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Locate the divot to the left of the rear-facing camera, near the power button.

  • Pry into the divot using a plastic opening tool or your fingernail.

Lift the rear case at the corner nearest the divot.

  • Hold firmly and gently pull the case away from the phone.
  • Continue to lift until the rear case is removed completely.

Step 3 | MicroSD Card

Use the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail to press the microSD card slightly deeper into its slot.

  • Hear a click, then release the card and it will pop out.
  • Remove the microSD card.

For reassembly, push the microSD card in carefully until it clicks into place to avoid damaging the slot.

Step 4 | Battery

Insert a plastic opening tool or your finger into the notch of the battery compartment.

  • Lift the battery upward.
  • Remove the battery from your phone.

Step 5 | SIM Card

Press the SIM card deeper using a plastic opening tool or your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the SIM card and it will pop out of its slot.
  • Remove the SIM card.

Push the SIM card into place during reassembly until you hear a distinct click to ensure secure installation.

Step 6 | Midframe

  • Remove nine 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws.
  • The screws secure the midframe to the display assembly.

Be extremely cautious when prying the midframe from the display assembly.

  • Insert a plastic opening tool between the chrome bezel and larger border piece on the volume button side.
  • Locate the seam between the two and slide the tool along it, separating the plastic clips as you go.
  • Pry only enough to release the clips, avoiding areas that may crack with excessive force.

Pry around the corner of the phone using the opening tool.

  • Slide the tool along the seam between the midframe and display, starting from the bottom.
  • Continue releasing the plastic clips as you move along.

Step 9

Position the opening tool at the corner near the power button.

  • Pry gently along the seam until it opens.

Step 10

Slide the plastic opening tool around the top of the phone to release the remaining clips.

  • Check that all plastic clips have been freed from the display assembly by running the tool along the entire perimeter.

Remove the midframe from the display assembly.

Step 12 | USB Board

Disconnect the USB board cable by inserting the flat end of a spudger into the connector and gently prying it away from the motherboard.

Insert the spudger point between the USB port and bracket, prying one side from its post.

Step 14

Remove the USB port bracket from the USB port.

  • The bracket is slightly springy; it will return to its original position when properly seated.
  • It should pop back into place on the two screw posts during reassembly.

Disconnect the soft button cable from the USB board cable.

  • Remove the antenna cable connector from the USB board.
  • If your carrier requires an additional antenna, carefully disconnect it using a spudger if accessible at this point.

Step 16 | Free USB Board

Prying with force may damage the display or USB board.

  • Locate any additional antenna cables attached to the USB board on your carrier model.
  • Pry carefully under the USB board using a spudger, stopping if resistance is encountered.
  • Gently insert the flat end of a spudger beneath the USB board to release its adhesive hold.

Proceed with caution to avoid bending or damaging the USB board.

Step 17 | Remove USB Board

Disconnect any connected cables from the USB board.

  • Locate and release the usb board mounting screws.
  • Gently lift out the usb board from its socket on the display assembly.
