This repair guide is for replacing the display assembly in a Samsung Galaxy S4.
Locate the small divot to the left of the rear-facing camera, near the power button.
Hold the rear case by its corner near the divot and lift it off the phone.
Use the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail to press the microSD card slightly deeper.
Make sure not to force the card out of its slot, as this can cause damage.
Make sure not to touch any internal components.
Press the SIM card into its slot with a plastic opening tool or your fingernail until you hear a click.
The card will pop out after the click; do not try to remove it yet.
Remove the SIM card.
Remove the nine 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws holding the midframe to the display assembly.
Risk of damage to the midframe or display assembly if not careful.
Continue prying around the corner of the phone.
Position the opening tool at the power button edge.
Slide the plastic opening tool around the top of the phone to release the remaining clips.
Disconnect and remove all screws holding the midframe in place.
Remove the 2.4mm Phillips #00 screw from the motherboard assembly.
Remove the motherboard carefully.
Remove the 2.4 mm Phillips #00 screw holding the headphone jack assembly in place.
Remove the headphone jack assembly.
Remove any PH #00 screws (2.4mm) holding the upper display assembly bracket in place.
Release the front-facing camera from its connectors.
Be gentle to avoid damaging the camera or surrounding components.
Disconnect the earpiece speaker wires from the display board.
Be careful not to damage the earpiece speaker assembly.
Insert the tip of a spudger under the vibrator to release it from the display assembly.
Apply heat from a heat gun carefully, as excessive heat can damage components. A liberal application will soften the adhesive and allow for its re-use.
Locate and remove the vibrator from the rear of the display assembly.
Insert the spudger tip between the USB port and the USB port bracket.
Release the USB port bracket by grasping it firmly.
Careful handling is required when disconnecting cables.
Be careful not to bend the USB board when removing it.
Remove the USB board from the display assembly.
Peel up and remove the antenna connector cable from its channel in the rear of the display assembly.
For reassembly, reconnect the antenna connector cable before routing it back into its channel.
