Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Home Button Flex Cable Assembly Replacement

Make sure to follow these steps carefully to avoid any damage to your device.

  • Rearrange the contents of your phone in preparation for disassembly, including backing up data and removing SIM card.
  • Screwdriver required: T5 Torx. Locate the screws holding the home button assembly in place and remove them using a T5 Torx screwdriver.
  • The home button assembly is now free from the phone's casing. Carefully lift it out of its position for further examination or replacement if necessary.
  • To replace the home button assembly, simply reverse these steps and ensure all screws are securely tightened in place.

  • Remove the back case, battery, sim card, and sd card.
  • Use a #00 Phillips screwdriver to remove the 10 screws.
  • Separate the middle housing from the back housing using an opening tool like a guitar pick or similar device.

Locate the flex cable connections on the exposed side of the logic board.

  • The five highlighted flex cables are for the logic board, marked with orange highlights.
  • The single red highlighted connection on the USB charge board is for the home button and capacitive buttons (back button and menu button).

Remove the small bracket covering the front-facing camera to prevent damage.

Use caution when lifting the logic board, as it has a fragile display flex cable.

  • Disconnect flex cable connections on the logic board using a plastic pry tool.
  • Lift the board from the side with the power button, keeping it at an angle to avoid straining cables.

Avoid lifting the board too quickly or applying excessive force, as this may damage the display flex cable.

  • With the board tilted, use a plastic pry tool to free the display flex cable from the logic board.
  • Once all cables are disconnected, safely remove the logic board.

Disconnect the flex cable from the USB board.

  • Free up the area marked in yellow, if it is adhered down.

Note: This flex cable connection controls the home button assembly and capacitive keys backlight.

Risk of damage if excessive heat is applied.

  • Apply gentle, consistent heat with a heat gun, hair dryer, or iOpener to loosen the display's adhesive.
  • Focus on the outer edges of the display for effective loosening.

Prevent damage by avoiding long, stationary heating periods and over-exposure to heat.

  • Use caution when inserting separating tools, especially at the top and bottom edges, to avoid damaging nearby flex cables (digitizer/LCD or home button).

Loosen adhesive, then lift screen from top down.

  • Slide display ribbon cable through slot in housing.

At bottom, also slide flex cable through its slot, being cautious not to strain it.

Be patient when guiding home button flex cable; use a zig-zag motion and avoid excessive force.

Remove the home button flex cable assembly.

  • Pry up the back button section with a plastic pry tool, applying heat to loosen adhesive if necessary.
  • The back button will simply pop out, no further assistance required.
  • Pry up the menu button section using a plastic pry tool.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding areas during removal.
