Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Rear Facing Camera Replacement

Know how to remove components up to and including the motherboard.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Careful not to scratch the camera or power button area.

  • Pry the rear case using a plastic opening tool or your fingernail at the divot to the left of the rear-facing camera.
  • Lift and remove the rear case from the phone.

Step 2 | MicroSD Card

Press the microSD card further into its slot using a plastic opening tool or your fingernail until you hear a click.

Do not force the card if it does not click.

  • Release the microSD card and let it pop out of its slot.
  • Remove the microSD card from the device.

Step 3 | Battery

Insert the plastic opening tool into the notch of the battery compartment.

Lift the battery upward to remove it from its slot.

Step 4 | SIM Card

Press the SIM card slightly deeper into its slot using a plastic opening tool or your fingernail

  • until you hear a click.
  • Release the SIM card and it will pop out of its slot.
  • Remove the SIM card.

Step 5 | Midframe

Use the spudger tip to pry out the four metallic pads at each corner.

  • Remove the 12 Phillips #00 screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

Step 6

Use the plastic opening tool to gently pry along the entire edge of the midframe, loosening its grip on the front case.

Step 7 | Motherboard

Use the flat end of a plastic opening tool to disconnect the USB board connector.

  • Be careful when handling cables — risk of damage or breakage.

    Disconnect the front-facing camera cable connector.
  • Disconnect the earpiece speaker assembly cable connector.
  • Disconnect the headphone jack assembly cable connector.
  • Disconnect the display/digitizer cable connector.
  • Disconnect the antenna cable connector.

Step 8

Remove the 2.4 mm Phillips #00 screw.

Step 9

Disconnect and remove the motherboard.

Step 10 | Rear Facing Camera

Step 10 image

Disconnect the rear-facing camera connector with a plastic opening tool.

  • Insert the tool's flat end into the connector's release mechanism.
  • Gently pry the connector loose.
