Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Motherboard Replacement

Follow this repair guide for replacing the motherboard on your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active if it's faulty.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Use a plastic opening tool or your fingernail to pry in the divot left of the camera, near the power button.

  • Lift the rear case by its corner nearest the prying point.
  • Remove the case from the phone.

Step 2 | MicroSD Card

Press the microSD card slightly deeper with a plastic opening tool or your fingernail until you hear a click.

The card may pop out after releasing it.

  • Release the microSD card.
  • The card will now be removable from its slot.

Step 3 | Battery

Position the plastic opening tool in the battery compartment notch and gently pry the battery up.

  • Alternatively, use your index finger inserted into the notch to lift the battery out.

Step 4 | SIM Card

  • Press the SIM card slightly deeper into its slot using a plastic opening tool or your fingernail, until you hear a click.
  • After the click, release the card and it will pop out of its slot.
  • Remove the SIM card.

Step 5 | Midframe

Locate and carefully pry off the four metallic pads with the tip of a spudger.

  • Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 12 screws connecting the midframe to the device.

Step 6

Use the plastic opening tool to pry around the entire edge of the midframe.

  • Pry along the edges, working your way around the phone's exterior.
  • This should release the midframe from the front case.

Step 7 | Motherboard

  • Use the flat end of a plastic opening tool to disconnect the USB board connector.
  • Disconnect the front-facing camera cable connector.
  • Disconnect the earpiece speaker assembly cable connector.
  • Disconnect the headphone jack assembly cable connector.
  • Disconnect the display/digitizer cable connector.
  • Disconnect the antenna cable connector.

Step 8

Remove the 2.4 mm Phillips #00 screw holding the motherboard in place.

Step 9

Remove the motherboard.
