Cracked glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply strips of packing tape over the cracked glass, making sure not to cover the frame.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape is applied along the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup to fit on.

Consider wearing safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying glass debris during the repair.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Step 3 image

Improper use of a heat gun can destroy the display and/or battery.

  • Use an iOpener, hair dryer, or heat gun to heat the back cover for 2 minutes.
  • Lay the iOpener on the bottom edge of the back cover to soften the adhesive.

Follow linked instructions carefully for safe heat gun use.

Careful not to damage any components.

  • Use a suction handle to lift and remove the back cover.
  • If stuck, go around perimeter with an opening pick and separate adhesive.

Power cycle your phone before reassembly.

  • Power on phone, test all functions.
  • Power down completely before continuing.

Inspect rear cameras for smudges and clean if necessary.

  • Check rear cameras for smudges.
  • Clean with a lint-free cloth if necessary.

Apply adhesive to either the or back cover.

  • Use cutouts and contours for proper alignment.
  • Refer to correct guide based on adhesive placement.
