Ensure the Galaxy's battery is below 25% charge before proceeding — a charged lithium-ion battery may pose a fire hazard if damaged.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Power off the phone by pressing and holding the side key and volume down button, then selecting Power off.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Cracked glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly, so follow these steps.

  • Apply non-overlapping strips of packing tape to the cracked glass, covering it completely.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape is along the bottom edge, big enough for a suction cup to fit on.
  • Only apply tape to the glass, avoiding the frame.

Wearing safety glasses is recommended to protect your eyes from loose glass shards.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Step 3 image

Improper use of a heat gun can damage your device — follow linked guidelines carefully.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes, or use a hair dryer/heat gun.
  • Heating the cover softens the adhesive, making removal easier.

Step 4 | Adhesive information

Thumbnail 3

Apply firm pressure to the suction handle until a gap appears between the back glass and frame.

  • Hold the phone in place with one hand, or steady the frame with the other.
  • Be cautious of heat damage.
  • Insert an opening pick into the formed gap.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply heat to stuck areas before prying off the back cover.

  • Insert an opening pick into the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Pry along the entire bottom edge to release the adhesive.

Step 8 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner and slide it along the right edge to release the adhesive.

  • The tool should move in a gentle, sweeping motion to avoid damaging the surrounding material.

Step 9 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 9 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert the pick just a few millimeters near the cameras.

  • Slide it around the top right corner, then along the top edge.
  • This will help separate the adhesive without damaging the cameras.

Step 10 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 10 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Slide the opening pick along the top left corner, then down the left edge of the device.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Remove the back cover using the suction handle.

If still stuck, go around perimeter with an opening pick and separate adhesive.

  • Power on phone and test functions before reassembling.
  • Turn off phone completely before continuing work.

Inspect rear cameras for smudges. If necessary, wipe gently with clean lint-free cloth.

Adhesive will be applied to either frame or back cover. Check cutouts and contours for best alignment.

Step 12 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 3

Avoid puncturing or denting the battery to prevent chemical leaks or fires.

  • Use a blunt tool, like a plastic spudger, to avoid damage.
  • Apply heat if the tab feels fragile.
  • Gently slide the spudger under the top edge of the upper tab and lift slowly to separate it.
  • Repeat as needed until the tab fully separates.

Step 16 | Detach the wireless charging coil tape

Step 16 image
