Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Motherboard Replacement

If your Galaxy S25 Ultra won't power on or shutdowns unexpectedly, a faulty motherboard might be the cause.

  • Replace the motherboard (also known as the main board or logic board) in your Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra smartphone.
  • You'll need replacement back cover adhesive to complete this repair successfully.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Allow the Galaxy's battery to drain below 25% before commencing this repair — a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Power down your device by holding the side key and volume down button, then selecting Power off.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Broken glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply non-overlapping strips of packing tape to the cracked glass, covering it entirely.
  • E nsure there's a single strip of tape across the bottom edge for suction cup placement, big enough for fitment.
  • Only cover the glass, avoiding contact with the frame.
  • Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from potential debris.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Careful use of a heat gun is crucial to avoid damaging the display and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the cover.
  • Once soft, carefully separate the back cover from the frame using a prying motion.

Step 4 | Adhesive information

Avoid damaging the cameras by only inserting tools under the back cover near their location.

  • Observe how the adhesive is applied around the perimeter of the frame, as seen in the reference picture.
  • Separate the adhesive carefully from this point.

Step 5 | Apply a suction handle

Position the suction handle on the center of the back cover's lower edge, ideally as near to the edge as feasible.

Hold the phone with one hand and apply strong, steady force up on the suction handle.

  • A gap should form between the back glass and frame.
  • Lifting hand: Hold the phone down or use a free hand to steady the frame. Be careful; your phone may be hot.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply heat if necessary to loosen the back cover.

  • Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge and work it along the seam.

Step 8 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert the opening pick at the bottom right corner and guide it along the right edge to loosen the adhesive.

Step 9 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert a pick slightly (a few mm) near the cameras.

  • Start at the top right corner, then slide the pick along the top edge.
  • This will help separate the adhesive without damaging the cameras.

Step 10 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the top left corner and work it down the left edge of the device to release the adhesive.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

  • Lift and remove the back cover using the suction handle.
  • If still stuck, reapply the opening pick around the perimeter to separate any remaining adhesive.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up. Power down completely before continuing.

  • Inspect rear cameras for smudges and gently wipe them with a clean, lint-free cloth if necessary.
  • Apply replacement back cover adhesive to either the frame or the back cover, aligning it with cutouts and contours.

Step 12 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Use the point of the spudger to pry up and release the wireless charging coil press connector.

Step 13 | Remove the wireless charging and loudspeaker screws

Keep track of each screw removed during this repair.

Ensure that every screw is replaced in its original position to avoid damaging your phone.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove ten screws.
  • Four 3.5 mm-long screws secure the wireless charging coil, and six more of these screws secure the loudspeaker assembly.

Step 14 | Heat the wireless charging adhesive

Remove the wireless charging coil from the device.

  • Lay the iOpener over the two right-side tabs, heating them for one minute to loosen the adhesive.

Step 15 | Detach the wireless charging coil tabs

Do not use sharp or metal tools near the battery, as it can leak dangerous chemicals or catch fire.

  • Apply gentle heat and carefully attempt to separate the fragile tabs if they feel prone to tearing.
  • Gently slide a spudger's point under the top edge of an upper tab and slowly lift to separate it, repeating as necessary until fully separated.

Step 16 | Detach the wireless charging coil tape

Repeat the previous action from the bottom edge.

  • Separate the lower tab using the same tool.

Step 17 | Pry up the loudspeaker

Use the point of a spudger to gently pry up the right side of the loudspeaker and release its clip.

  • During reassembly, press firmly around the perimeter of the loudspeaker with your thumbs or a blunt tool.
  • Continue pressing until you hear the clips engage with a distinct click.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging and loudspeaker assembly

Hold both wireless charging and loudspeaker assembly sides with your fingers spread apart.

  • Pull upwards gently to release the clips.
  • Lift the wireless charging and loudspeaker assembly out of its housing.

Step 19 | Disconnect the battery

Incorrect prying can damage the board's surface-mounted components.

  • Locate the gold arrow indicating where to pry, corresponding to each press connector on the board.
  • Use a spudger point to gently pry up and disconnect the battery press connector at the marked location.

Locate the uppermost, short earpiece speaker press connector on the top right of the motherboard.

  • Use a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect this connector.

Remove the earpiece speaker by unscrewing its Phillips head screws, all 5 of which are 3.5 mm long.

Avoid scratching the cameras with a sharp edge.

  • Lift the earpiece speaker with a pointed spudger, starting from its top left corner until it unclips.
  • Remove the speaker once loose.

When reinstalling, press the speaker firmly around its perimeter to engage clips, avoiding smudge marks on cameras or damage to surface-mounted components.

Step 23 | Disconnect the USB-C board

Use the spudger to carefully pry up the two press connectors at the top edge of the USB-C board.

  • Firmly grip the spudger at an angle.
  • Pry upwards on each press connector to release it from the board.

Use the point of a spudger to carefully pry up and release the leftmost interconnect cable's press connector from the motherboard.

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the wide press connector, located just to the right of its neighbor.

  • Pry only until the connector releases, avoiding damage to any underlying adhesive.

Step 27 | Remove the interconnect cable

Disconnect the leftmost interconnect cable.

Hold the middle interconnect cable firmly, about an inch above its connector on the motherboard.

  • Pry the cable gently upwards with your fingers to loosen its connection.
  • Once loose, carefully remove the cable from its socket.

Step 29 | Disconnect the screen cable

Insert the pointed end of the spudger into the connector and gently pry it away from the motherboard.

  • The screen cable press connector should now come loose.

Step 30 | Remove the screen cable

Disconnect and remove the screen cable.

Insert the pointed end of the spudger between the connector and the motherboard, then gently pry it up.

  • Disconnect the first connector from the top edge of the motherboard.
  • Release the second connector from the right edge of the motherboard.
  • Remove the third and final connector from the top edge of the motherboard.

Step 32 | Remove the motherboard screws

Remove the Phillips screwdriver. Loosen and take out:

  • 1 x black 4.0 mm screw
  • 1 x silver 3.5 mm screw

Risk damage to connectors and surface-mounted components by gripping the motherboard where cameras are located.

  • Lift top edge of motherboard and remove, ensuring no cables snag.
  • During reassembly, slide right edge of motherboard under cables before laying down.
  • May need to hold or reposition cables to avoid getting stuck under board.

Step 34 | Hold the motherboard up

Avoid pressing the motherboard against the work surface to prevent damaging fragile components.

  • Flip the motherboard over and hold it at a slight angle above your work surface.
  • Maintain this position while working on the cameras to avoid exposing them to unnecessary risk.
  • Be cautious not to scratch or smudge the exposed cameras on the bottom of the board.

Step 35 | Remove the ultrawide and wide cameras

Remove the cameras from top to bottom, following their slotted connections.

  • Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the upper two press connectors for the ultrawide (uppermost) and wide (below) cameras.
  • Remove the wide and ultrawide cameras as one connected assembly.

Remove the wide and ultrawide cameras by lifting their outer edges and sliding them away from the board.

  • During reassembly, slide the cameras into place at a slight downward angle.
  • Ensure the tab on the top edge of each camera goes under the board.
  • Verify that both cameras are properly aligned and seated before proceeding.

Step 37 | Remove the telephoto camera

  • Use a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the telephoto (middle) camera press connector.
  • Lift the camera straight up and remove it.
  • During reassembly, ensure the tab on the bottom edge fits into its corresponding slot on the other camera before reconnecting it.

Step 38 | Remove the periscope camera

Use the point of a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the periscope telephoto (bottom) camera press connector.

  • Remove the bottom camera completely from its holder.
  • During reassembly, ensure that all cameras are properly aligned and slot together correctly. Refer to the provided photos of the bottom and top for correct placement: cameras should be close with minimal wiggle room.

Step 39 | You're left with the motherboard

Step 39 image

The motherboard has been removed and is ready to be replaced.
