Let the Galaxy's battery drain below 25% before starting, as a charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Power down completely by holding the side key and volume down button simultaneously to select Power off.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Step 2 image

Cracked back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Packing tape: Cover cracked glass completely, but avoid attaching tape to the frame.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape is applied along the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup to fit.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from potential glass fragments during repair.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Step 3 image

Improper use of a heat gun may damage the display and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes, or use a hair dryer/heat gun as an alternative.

Softening the adhesive will facilitate separation.

Follow linked heat gun instructions carefully to avoid damage.

Avoid damaging the camera lenses by inserting the tool too deeply.

  • Reference the provided picture for separating the adhesive from the frame's perimeter.
  • Insert your tool only slightly under the cover near the cameras to avoid damage.

Step 5 | Apply a suction handle

Be careful, as your phone may be hot.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force until a gap forms between the back glass and frame.
  • Hold the phone down with your lifting hand's fingers or steady the frame with your other hand.
  • Insert the opening pick tip into the gap.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Insert the pick about 2mm into the gap at camera's location.

  • Carefully slide the pick toward the top-right corner and along the top edge.
  • The pick will help loosen the adhesive between the phone case and the screen.

Step 10 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 10 image

Slide the opening pick along the top left corner, then down the left edge of the device.

  • Gently pry the adhesive away from the surface as you move the pick.

Thumbnail 3

Use a suction handle to lift off the back cover.

If the cover still feels stuck, go back around the perimeter with an opening pick and separate any remaining adhesive.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up.
  • Make sure to power down your phone completely before continuing work.

  • Inspect rear cameras for smudges and gently wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth if necessary.
  • Apply replacement back cover adhesive to either the frame or the back cover. Use cutouts and contours to determine best alignment.

Step 12 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 12 image

Keep track of each screw during this repair.

  • To avoid damaging your phone, ensure each screw returns to its original location exactly as it was found.

  • Remove the ten screws securing the wireless charging and loudspeaker assembly using a Phillips screwdriver:
    • Four screws, 3.5 mm long, for the wireless charging coil
    • Six screws, 3.5 mm long, for the loudspeaker

Step 14 | Heat the wireless charging adhesive

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply heat from an iOpener to the two tabs securing the wireless charging coil for 1 minute.

  • The adhesive will begin to soften during this time.
  • Be cautious not to overheat, as damage may occur.

Step 15 | Detach the wireless charging coil tabs

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 3

Avoid puncturing or denting the battery, which can lead to chemical leaks or fire.

  • Use a blunt tool (such as a plastic spudger) when handling the tabs and battery.
  • Apply more heat if the tab feels fragile and may tear while attempting separation.

Gently slide the point of a spudger under the top edge of the upper tab, lift slowly, and repeat as necessary to fully separate.

Step 16 | Detach the wireless charging coil tape

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 2

Use the spudger tip to gently pry up the right side of the loudspeaker, releasing it from its clip.

  • Reattach the loudspeaker by pressing firmly around its perimeter during reassembly.
  • Ensure all clips are securely engaged for proper loudspeaker retention.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging and loudspeaker assembly

Step 18 image

Hold the wireless charging and loudspeaker assembly firmly with both hands.

  • Grip the assembly securely at each end.

Step 19 | Disconnect the battery

Pry-ing at an incorrect location may damage the board's surface-mounted components.

  • Locate the gold arrow on the board indicating the correct prying position for each press connector.
  • Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the battery press connector at this marked point.

Step 20 | Disconnect the earpiece speaker

Step 20 image

Use a spudger to lift the earpiece speaker by its top left corner until it unclips.

Avoid scratching the cameras with your tool.

  • Remove the speaker.
  • During reassembly, press firmly around the speaker's perimeter to engage its clips.

Careful not to smudge the cameras or apply pressure on surface-mounted components.
