If the back cover is bulging, it may indicate a swollen battery; proceed with caution.

  • Purchase replacement back cover adhesive to complete the repair.

Let your Galaxy's battery drain below 25% to prevent damage or fire.

  • Remove all cables from your phone.
  • Power Off your device by holding the side key and volume down button simultaneously, then select Power off.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Cracked back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply non-overlapping strips of packing tape to cracked glass, covering it entirely.
  • A single strip must run along the bottom edge, allowing suction cup attachment.

Tape should only cover the glass itself, not the frame.

Consider wearing safety glasses for eye protection during this repair.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Step 3 image

Use caution when applying heat — improper use can damage display/battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the back cover's bottom edge for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun (follow linked instructions) to soften adhesive.

Step 4 | Adhesive information

Use Picture X for reference when separating the back cover's adhesive.

  • The back cover is secured with adhesive around the perimeter of the frame.
  • Insert your tool carefully, only slightly under the cover near the cameras to avoid damage.

Step 5 | Apply a suction handle

Apply firm upward pressure on the suction handle until a gap appears between the back glass and frame.

  • Use the fingers of one hand to hold the phone steady or stabilise the frame with your other hand.
  • Careful: your phone may be hot during this process.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap that has formed.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Use a suction handle to lift off the back cover.

If the cover is stuck, go around the perimeter with an opening pick and remove any remaining adhesive.

  • During reassembly, power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up.
  • Power your phone back down completely to prevent damage.

  • Inspect the rear cameras for smudges and wipe them gently with a clean, lint-free cloth if needed.
  • Apply the replacement adhesive to either the frame or the back cover, following the matching guide (either this one or the other).
