Allow Galaxy's battery to drain below 25% to prevent damage and risk of fire.

  • Unplug all cables from the phone.
  • Purge power by holding side key and volume down button, then select Power off.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Step 2 image

Cracked phone back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply non-overlapping strips of packing tape over the cracked area until it's fully covered.
  • Maintain a single strip of tape along the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup to fit securely.

Avoid applying tape to the phone frame and consider wearing safety glasses during the repair.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Step 3 image

Follow the linked instructions for proper heat gun usage to avoid damaging the display and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the cover, being cautious with its operation.

Once heated, carefully separate the back cover from the frame.

Step 4 | Adhesive information

Use care when handling the back cover and its adhesive, as it can be damaged easily.

  • Observe how the adhesive surrounds the frame's perimeter for future reference.
  • To avoid camera damage, gently insert your tool under the cover near the cameras only slightly.

Step 5 | Apply a suction handle

Step 5 image

Apply suction handle firmly until a gap forms between back cover and frame.

  • Hold phone down with fingers from lifting hand or use free hand to steady frame carefully.
  • Your phone may be hot, so exercise caution when handling it.

  • Insert tip of opening pick into gap.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 7 image

Insert the opening pick 2-3 mm from the camera lenses to avoid damage.

  • Guide the pick around the top right corner, then along the top edge to loosen the adhesive.

Step 10 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 10 image

Use a precision opening pick to carefully pry the adhesive along the top left corner, then work it down the entire length of the left edge.

  • Pick up where the adhesive meets the phone's body at the top left corner.
  • Gently slide the pick along the edge, increasing pressure as needed to separate the adhesive.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Use a suction handle to lift off the back cover.

If stuck, reapply an opening pick and separate any remaining adhesive along the edges.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions during reassembly.
  • Make sure to power it down completely before proceeding.

  • Inspect rear cameras for smudges; clean with a lint-free cloth if needed.

Apply new adhesive to either the frame or the back cover, using cutouts and contours to determine the correct placement.

Step 12 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 12 image
