Never start repairs with a fully charged battery — risk of fire.

  • Allow Galaxy's battery to drain below 25% before proceeding.
  • Unplug all cables from the phone.
  • Power button, hold side key and volume down button, select Power off.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Apply packing tape strips over cracked back glass to contain it and aid removal.

  • Cover the entire crack with non-overlapping tape for maximum protection.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape spans the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup to fit.
  • Avoid applying tape to the phone's frame.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying glass debris during the repair process.

Step 3 | Heat the back cover

Step 3 image

Apply heat to the back cover using an iOpener, a hair dryer, or a heat gun.

  • Lay the iOpener on the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Follow the linked instructions carefully when using a heat gun to avoid damaging the display and/or battery.

Improper use of a heat gun can destroy the display and/or battery.

  • Hold the phone down or stabilize the frame with your free hand while keeping the fingers of your lifting hand engaged.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the formed gap.
