Be aware that a bulging back cover may indicate a swollen battery — take necessary safety precautions.
Allow the battery to drain below 25% before starting this repair, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.
A fully charged battery can be hazardous if damaged during disassembly.
Cracked glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.
Improper heat gun use risks damaging the display and/or battery.
Heating softens adhesive, making it easier to separate the back cover from the frame.
Be cautious when handling the back cover, as the adhesive can be stubborn and damage the camera lens if inserted too deeply.
Position a suction handle directly on the center of the back cover's bottom edge, as near the edge as feasible.
Apply firm pressure to the suction handle until a gap appears between the back cover and frame.
Apply heat to stubborn areas of the back cover for 30 seconds before attempting separation.
Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner, then slide it upwards along the right edge to release the adhesive.
Insert the pick just 2-3 mm from the camera lenses.
Insert an opening pick into the top left corner of the device.
Remove the back cover using a suction handle.
If stuck, reapply an opening pick around the perimeter and separate any remaining adhesive.
Inspect and wipe smudges from rear cameras with a clean, lint-free cloth if necessary.
Ensure replacement adhesive is applied to either the frame or back cover. Use cutouts and contours for alignment.
