Allow the battery to discharge below 25% to prevent possible fire hazard from a damaged lithium-ion battery.

  • Power down the device completely.
  • Unplug all cables, including power and data connections.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Avoid overheating the phone, as excessive heat can damage the battery.

  • Apply a preheated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the right edge of the back glass until it feels hot to the touch.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle near the center of the right edge.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force.

  • If stuck, apply more heat to soften adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick into the right edge of the phone, sliding it between the back cover and the frame.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure — risk of damaging the screen or other components.

Remove your opening pick once you've sliced through all the adhesive, leaving one opening pick in the bottom right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 5 image

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the bottom of the back cover for two minutes.

Insert a second opening pick to the left of the first one.

  • Slide it along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.
  • Leave your opening pick in the bottom left edge to prevent resealing.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Step 8 image

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the left side of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Insert a third opening pick above the last one, and slide it along the left edge to slice through the adhesive.

  • Only insert your pick up to 4 mm deep to avoid damaging the rear cameras or flash.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the top of the back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Insert a fifth opening pick above the camera flash cutout.
  • Continue under top of back cover until it starts snagging on flash adhesive.
  • Do not insert the pick deeper than its center point to avoid damaging rear cameras.

Once the adhesive separates, proceed with further opening procedures.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image

Remove the back cover by lifting it from the edges.

  • If stuck, use an opening pick to slide around the perimeter until separated.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing, then power down completely.

Remove adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers; apply heat and isopropyl alcohol (90%+) if necessary.

  • For custom-cut adhesives: follow this guide.
  • For double-sided tape: follow this guide.
