Samsung Galaxy S24 Screen Replacement

Note that replacing the old screen with a new one will result in loss of IP rating and potential issues with water resistance if not properly sealed.

  • This guide is for replacing the screen on its own or as part of a pre-assembled frame.
  • The old screen will be destroyed during this process.
  • This guide is not intended for harvesting screens, and attempting to do so may damage your device.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

Allow the phone's battery to drain below 25% to prevent potential damage or fire.

  • Power off the device completely and disconnect all USB connections.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Apply iOpener to right edge of back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun on right edge of back glass until hot to touch.
  • Do not heat phone beyond this point to avoid battery damage from excessive heat.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

  • Apply a suction handle to the back cover near its center right edge.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong force to create a gap between cover and frame.
  • If trouble persists, apply more heat to further soften adhesive.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 4 image

  • Insert the opening pick at the top of the right edge, between the back cover and the , and slide it down.
  • Leave the opening pick in place in the bottom right corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 5 image

Apply iOpener to the bottom of the back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Reheat the iOpener as needed.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 6 image

Continue rotating until the adhesive is fully separated.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert another opening pick to the left of the existing one.

Make sure this new pick is along the bottom edge, slicing through any remaining adhesive.

Leave both picks in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Step 8 image

Reheat your iOpener and apply it to the left side of the back cover for two minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Hold the opening pick at the bottom left corner and rotate it slowly.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure, which can damage the screen.

  • Continue rotating until the adhesive starts to separate.

Step 10 | Separate the left adhesive

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a third opening pick above the last one and slide it along the left edge.

Do not insert more than 4 mm deep, as this can damage the rear cameras or flash.

  • Leave the top-left opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the top of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert a fourth opening pick in the top left corner, ensuring it's at the same depth as the other picks.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge of the device.
  • Continue around the top right corner to slice through the adhesive.

Step 14 | Separate the flash adhesive

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a fifth opening pick directly above the camera flash cutout.

  • Slide the pick under the top of the back cover until it starts to snag on the flash adhesive.
  • Continue inserting the pick deeper into the phone, feeling for complete separation from the back cover.
  • Avoid inserting the pick beyond its center point to prevent damage to the rear cameras.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Remove the back cover by lifting its edges and sliding it off the phone.

  • If still attached, use an opening pick to slide along the perimeter until separated.

Power on your phone and test functions before reassembly. Ensure it is fully powered down before continuing work.

  • Remove adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers.
  • If needed, use heat and at least 90% isopropyl alcohol to aid in removal.

If using custom-cut adhesives, refer to the relevant guide. For double-sided tape, consult the corresponding guide as well.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 16 image

Use a spudger to pry up the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.

  • Align the disconnected press connector over its socket on the motherboard.
  • Carefully press down first on one side and then the other until it clicks into place.

Do not force the connector; try repositioning if necessary and attempt again.

Step 17 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker screws

Step 17 image

Align the back cover with the frame and press down evenly with your fingers to lightly secure it.

  • No new adhesive should be applied at this step; the old adhesive will suffice for now.
  • If you've removed the original adhesive, hold it in place while flipping the phone over, being careful not to damage it.

Flip the phone over so that the screen is facing upwards.

Step 25

Step 25 image

Apply overlapping strips of packing tape to cover the cracked glass.

  • Tape should be laid down carefully to protect against sharp edges.
  • Ensure a smooth area near the top edge for secure suction cup attachment.

Step 26 image

Thumbnail 3

Use a iFlex or similar tool to create an initial gap between the front glass and frame.

  • Grip the iFlex by the handle, not the edges, as they are very sharp.
  • Wear protective gear: gloves and safety glasses may be necessary to prevent injury from shattered glass.

Step 27 | Heat the screen

Step 27 image

Do not overheat the phone — risk of battery damage.

  • Apply a hair dryer or heat gun to the top edge of the screen until it's nearly too hot to touch.
  • Beware: excessive heat can damage the battery.

Step 28 | Insert the iFlex

Step 28 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Attach a suction handle to the center top edge of the screen, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Insert the iFlex at an angle into the gap between the frame and front glass.
  • Lift the suction handle with strong force and lower the iFlex so it fits under the front glass. Some separation is normal, but be cautious not to insert too far: the iFlex may damage the front-facing camera if inserted too deeply.

Step 29 | Insert an opening pick

Step 29 image

Careful not to burn yourself with overheated display.

  • Lift glass and display layer together towards top of phone.
  • Apply heat if necessary, but be cautious as the display will get almost too hot to handle.

Step 34 | Remove the display

Step 34 image

Separate the glass screen and display unit.

  • Gently lift the front bezel to release the display connector.
  • Carefully pull the display unit away from the phone's casing.
