Samsung Galaxy S24 Motherboard Replacement

Retaining water resistance is not guaranteed and may result in loss of IP rating.

  • Follow this guide to replace the motherboard in your Samsung Galaxy S24.
  • The back cover adhesive must be reapplied carefully to maintain any level of water resistance.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Ensure the phone's battery is below 25% charge to avoid a potential fire hazard.

Power down the phone completely, then disconnect any connected cables.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Be cautious when heating the device to avoid overheating the battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun on the same area until it's hot to the touch.

Avoid overheating the device as this can cause damage to the battery.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle near the center of the right edge of the back cover.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • If trouble persists, apply more heat to soften adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

  • Insert an opening pick at the right edge, sliding it between the back cover and frame.
  • The opening pick should slice through the adhesive; leave it in the bottom right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the bottom of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Insert an opening pick at the bottom right corner of the device and gently rotate it.

  • The pick should be used to break down any remaining adhesion between the screen and the frame.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Insert a second opening pick to the left of the first, sliding it along the bottom edge.

Leaving one opening pick in the bottom left edge will prevent re-adhesion.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Reheat the iOpener and apply heat to the left side of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Place the opening pick at the bottom left corner and rotate it to loosen the adhesive.

Insert a third opening pick above the last one and slide it along the left edge.

  • Ensure the new pick is no more than 4 mm deep to avoid damaging the rear cameras or flash.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at top left corner, preventing resealing of adhesive.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the top of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the corner adhesive

Position the opening pick at the top left corner and rotate it gently to begin separating the adhesive.

Step 13 | Separate the top adhesive

Insert a fourth opening pick into the top left corner, ensuring it's at the same depth as the other picks.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge, working your way towards the top right corner.
  • Continue to apply gentle pressure until you've sliced through the adhesive.

Step 14 | Separate the flash adhesive

  • Place a fifth opening pick above the camera flash cutout.
  • Do not insert too far or risk damage to the rear cameras.

  • Slide the pick under the top edge of the back cover until it starts to catch on the adhesive.
  • Continue sliding the pick in until you feel the adhesive fully release from the back cover.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover by grasping its edges.

  • If the cover remains attached to the frame, use an opening pick to carefully separate it around the perimeter.

Power on your phone and test all functions before reassembling. Ensure the phone is completely powered down before continuing work.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers.
  • If necessary, apply heat and 90% or greater isopropyl alcohol to aid in removal.

For custom-cut adhesives, refer to this guide. For double-sided tape, follow these instructions.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.

  • To reconnect: align the connector carefully over its socket, and press down gently on one side, then the other, until it clicks into place.
  • Do not force the connector; if necessary, reposition it and try again.

Step 17 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker screws

Remove the thirteen 3.5mm screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Six of these screws secure the wireless charging coil, and seven secure the loudspeaker.

  • Start with the coils or loudspeaker.
  • Gently pry up the components after loosening the screws.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker

Locate the notch on the loudspeaker assembly's left edge.

  • Insertion tool (spudger) into the identified notch.
  • Pry up the loudspeaker to release its retaining clips.

Use a fingernail or spudger to pry up the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker assembly.

  • Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker from your phone.
  • During reassembly, press around the edges of the loudspeaker to secure it to the frame before replacing the screws.

Step 20 | Disconnect the battery

Locate the battery press connector on the motherboard.

  • Caution: Make sure not to damage the surrounding components.
  • Insert the flat end of a spudger under the battery cable press connector.
  • Pry up gently to disconnect the press connector.

Step 21 | Disconnect the earpiece speaker

Underneath the earpiece speaker connector, insert the tip of a spudger on the left side.

  • Pry upwards gently to disconnect the connector.

Step 22 | Remove the earpiece speaker screws

Remove the earpiece speaker's screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • The screws are secured with 5 x 3.5 mm long Phillips head screws.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger under the earpiece speaker assembly's bottom.
  • Pry up gently to release the speaker from the chassis.
  • Remove the earpiece speaker.

Step 24 | Disconnect the interconnect cables

Locate the secondary interconnect cable press connector, labeled "MAIN", at the bottom right corner of the motherboard.

  • Insert the point of a spudger under the connector and pry up to disconnect it.
  • Repeat this process for the primary interconnect cable press connector.

Locate the display and 5G mmWave cable press connectors at the bottom left edge of the motherboard.

  • Pry open the press connector using a flathead screwdriver or similar tool.
  • Gently pull the connector away from the motherboard to release it.

Locate the interconnect cable press connectors on the daughterboard, repeat the previous steps.

  • Disconnect the display cable connector located to the left of the daughterboard.

Step 27 | Remove the interconnect cables

  • Remove the interconnect cables. There are two.
  • Disconnect the display cable.

Step 28 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna

Insert the point of a spudger under the bottom left corner of the 5G mmWave antenna press connector.

Avoid prying near surface-mounted components, as they can be damaged.

  • Pry carefully to disconnect the press connector.

Step 29 | Disconnect the front camera

Use a spudger to gently pry up the front camera press connector.

  • Position the spudger's flat end under the connector.
  • Pry upwards to release the connection.

Step 30 | Remove the rear cameras screws

Remove the Phillips screws from the camera and motherboard area using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • The screws are approximately 3.5 mm in length.

Step 31 | Remove the motherboard

Use a spudger to gently pry the motherboard from the top edge.

  • The spudger should be inserted at the top edge, and you should feel it lift as it touches the front camera cable and mmWave antenna cable.

Disconnect the front camera cable and gently move it aside.

  • Locate and disconnect the mmWave antenna cable.
  • Lift the motherboard upward until it is completely free from the phone's housing.
  • Remove the motherboard from your phone.

Step 33 | Disconnect the ultrawide camera

Use a spudger to gently pry up the ultrawide camera press connector.

Disconnect the ultrawide camera from the motherboard and main camera.

  • Rotate the ultrawide camera module 45 degrees upwards towards the motherboard.
  • Pull it directly away from the motherboard at this angle to remove it.

Step 35 | Remove the main camera

Use a spudger to gently pry up the main camera press connector.

  • Lift the main camera away from the motherboard.
  • Remove the main camera.

Step 36 | Remove the telephoto camera

Locate the telephoto camera press connector.

  • Pry up the telephoto camera press connector with a pointed tool.
  • Lift the telephoto camera off the motherboard.

Reassemble the rear cameras in reverse order of disassembly to ensure proper alignment.

Step 37 | Only the motherboard remains

The motherboard has been removed and is ready for replacement.
