This guide is for replacing the screen and battery assembly, but can also be used to replace either component individually.
A fully charged lithium-ion battery can be a safety hazard.
If the battery is swollen, take necessary precautions to avoid damage or injury.
Disconnect all cables from your phone.
Avoid overheating the phone's display and internal battery.
Apply a suction handle to the back cover near the right edge.
Use strong, steady force when pulling up on the suction handle — risk of damaging the cover.
Slide a pick back and forth along the right edge to separate the adhesive.
Heat the iOpener and apply it to the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.
Insert an opening pick at the bottom of the device.
Apply heat to the left edge of the back cover using a iOpener for two minutes.
Rotate this new pick carefully around the bottom left corner to avoid screen damage.
Do not exceed 4mm insertion depth to avoid damaging the antenna cable.
Apply iOpener to top edge of back cover and heat for 2 minutes.
Insert the opening pick into the gap at the top of the right edge.
Avoid damaging the sensor or camera with excessive insertion depth.
Slide a pick along the top left corner and down the left edge to separate remaining adhesive.
Avoid inserting the pick more than 4mm to prevent camera damage.
Grab and remove the back cover.
When using custom-cut adhesives, follow this guide.
For double-sided tape, refer to its respective repair guide.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.
Only pry near the arrow mark on the board, avoiding surface-mounted components.
Do not force the connector - if needed, reposition and try again.
Remove the 10 Phillips screws, 4 for the wireless charging coil and 6 for the loudspeaker. Each screw is 3.5 mm long.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up one corner of the wireless charging coil tab on the right edge of the frame.
Insert the opening pick between the tab and the frame.
Use caution when handling the loudspeaker.
Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker from the frame.
Use a plastic spudger to pry up and disconnect the battery press connector.
Disconnect both interconnect cable press connectors from the motherboard using a spudger.
Disconnect both interconnect cable press connectors from the daughterboard using a spudger.
Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the bottom edge of the phone.
If you accidentally inserted the SIM eject tool into a microphone hole, it's unlikely to have damaged the microphone. Proceed with caution and inspect for any damage.
Remove the daughterboard screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Do not pry against the battery.
During reassembly, insert the USB-C port at an angle before pressing the daughterboard flat onto the frame.
Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the earpiece speaker press connector.
Remove the earpiece speaker using a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert the pointed end of a spudger under the bottom edge of the earpiece speaker, following the engraved arrow.
Be careful not to damage the earpiece speaker during removal or reinstallation.
During reassembly, insert the top edge of the earpiece speaker into the frame first, then press down to clip it back in place.
Disconnect the display cable press connector using a spudger.
Use a spudger to pry up the lower antenna press connector and disconnect it from the motherboard.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up the stylus port press connector from the motherboard.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up the upper antenna press connector from the motherboard.
Disconnect the fingerprint scanner press connector from the motherboard using a spudger.
Disconnect the front camera press connector from the motherboard using a spudger.
Remove the motherboard by using a Phillips screwdriver to remove two screws:
Use your finger or a spudger to carefully lift the top of the motherboard.
When reassembling, ensure all press connectors are above the motherboard to avoid damage during installation.
Remove the lower antenna's two 2.5 mm long screws using a Phillips driver.
Insert one arm of a SIM eject tool or angled tweezers into the bottom screw hole.
Pry up and lift the antenna bracket out of its recess until you can grip it with your fingers.
Remove the lower antenna.
Insert the flat end of a spudger under the upper antenna cable.
Remove the upper antenna. Lift it clear of the device.
Flip the phone upside down with the screen facing up.
Flip the phone back over with the front camera facing up.
