A fully charged lithium-ion battery can be a safety hazard — drain it below 25% first.

If the battery is swollen, take extra precautions when handling it.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Press and hold the side key and volume down button simultaneously.
  • Select "Power off" to shut down your phone.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

To avoid damaging the display and internal battery, do not apply excessive heat.

  • Apply heat to the right edge of the back cover using an iOpener for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate at a safe distance to achieve the same effect.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Apply a suction handle near the right edge of the back cover.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • If needed, apply more heat following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 4 image

Insert a pick at the bottom right corner and slide it back and forth along the right edge of the device to separate the adhesive.

Do not remove the pick as this may cause the adhesive to reseal.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 5 image

Be careful not to burn yourself when handling hot tools.

Apply a heated iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Remove the back cover.

  • If stuck, use an opening pick to separate any resealed adhesive around the edges.

Power on your phone and test functions before sealing, then power down completely before continuing.

Remove excess adhesive with tweezers or fingers. Apply heat if needed.

  • If using custom-cut adhesives, follow relevant guide.
  • If using double-sided tape, follow its specific guide.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 16 image

Identify the recommended prying location near each wireless charging coil press connector on the motherboard, indicated by an arrow printed on the board.

  • Pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard using a spudger, only in the recommended location to avoid dislodging surface-mounted components.
  • To reconnect, carefully align the press connector over its socket and press down gently with your fingertip-first on one side, then the other-until it clicks into place.
  • Do not force the connector into place. If experiencing trouble, reposition and try again.

Step 17 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker screws
