A fully charged lithium-ion battery may pose a safety risk.

  • Allow the phone's battery to drain below 25%.

Be cautious if the battery is swollen.

Unplug any connected cables from the phone.

  • Press and hold the side key and the volume down button.
  • Select "Power off" to shut down the phone.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be cautious not to overheat the phone, as this can damage the display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Apply a suction handle to the back cover, near the right edge's center.

If no gap forms, apply more heat as needed, following iOpener guidelines to prevent overheating.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap once it has formed.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 4 image

  • Move the pick horizontally along the right edge to break the adhesive bond.
  • Keep the pick inserted at the bottom right corner, preventing the adhesive from reforming.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 5 image

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 6 image

Hold the pick at the bottom right corner and rotate it slowly.

  • The goal is to pry up the adhesive without applying too much pressure.
  • Continue rotating the pick as needed until the adhesive starts to separate.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 7 image

  • Insert a second pick into the bottom right corner.
  • Slide this new pick to the bottom left corner, separating the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place at the bottom left to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Step 8 image

Apply iOpener to the left edge of the back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 9 image

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
  • Slide the pick towards the top left corner to begin separating the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick near the top left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Place a iOpener on the top edge of the back cover and heat it with a hair dryer or similar device.

  • Heat the iOpener for two minutes.

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner.

  • Slide the pick toward the top right corner to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick near the top right corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 14 | Separate the rear mic adhesive

Step 14 image

Locate the square of adhesive above the rear microphone, just below the flash.

  • Align the tip of an opening pick with the flash.
  • Pry under the top edge of the back cover, feeling for the adhesive.
  • Lift the cover as you slide the pick toward the bottom, freeing it from the adhesive.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image

Remove the back cover.

If stuck, use an opening pick to loosen any resealed adhesive.

  • Power on and test phone functions during reassembly.
  • Power down completely before continuing work.

Reapplying back cover adhesive correctly is crucial for maintaining water resistance.

Remove all original adhesive from the back cover and phone using tweezers or fingers, or heat/lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol (90%+).

For custom-cut adhesives, refer to this guide.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 16 image

Use a spudger to carefully pry up the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.

Note: A small arrow is printed near each press connector on the board, indicating the recommended prying location.

  • To reconnect a press connector, align it over its socket and press down gently with your fingertip-first on one side, then the other-until it clicks into place.
  • Do not force the connector into place. If necessary, reposition it and try again.

Step 17 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker screws

Ensure the small tabs above and below the blue pull tab are separated from the rest.

  • Dislodge the small, clear tabs using a gentle prying motion.
  • Bend these tabs outward to keep them away from the battery.
  • Alternatively, tape the tabs to the phone's side or screen for safekeeping.

Step 29 | Lift the battery

Step 29 image

Thumbnail 3

Locate the double-sided adhesive holding the battery in place.

  • Lift the battery using the pull tab, ensuring only the left edge rises initially.
  • Remove the remaining film and battery in the next step.

Apply steady, firm force to lift the blue pull tab straight up until the battery separates from the adhesive.

  • Firmly hold the phone's frame with one hand.
  • Lift the blue pull tab up and separate the battery from the bottom layer of adhesive film.

If necessary, apply 1-2 drops of high-concentration (90% or more) isopropyl alcohol to the left edge of the battery.

  • Raise the left phone edge to allow the alcohol to flow under the battery.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to soften before proceeding.

Carefully position the battery over the right phone edge, avoiding any bending or damage to the frame.

  • Lay the battery in place, ensuring it does not come into contact with the phone's components.
  • Peel up any remaining adhesive film as needed by pulling the battery away from the edge.

Step 30 | Remove the battery
