Samsung Galaxy S23 Screen and Battery Assembly Replacement

The battery must be completely discharged before disassembly to prevent a thermal event.

  • Ensure you have the correct replacement part for the screen and battery assembly.
  • If only replacing the screen, follow this guide.

Swollen batteries require special precautions. Note: Water resistance may be compromised after repair.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

A charged lithium-ion battery can be a safety hazard.

  • Allow the battery to drain below 25% charge.

If the battery is swollen, take appropriate precautions.

  • Unplug all cables from the phone.
  • Press and hold the side key and volume down button, then select "Power off" to shut down the device.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Be cautious not to overheat the phone, as the display and internal battery can be damaged.

  • Apply an iOpener for two minutes to soften the adhesive on the right edge of the back cover.
  • Alternatively, use a heat gun or hot plate with caution to prevent overheating.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle as close to the center of the right edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and the frame.
  • If trouble persists, reapply more heat following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Insert a pick into the bottom right corner, then slide it back and forth along the right edge to separate the adhesive.

  • Leave the pick inserted near the bottom right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Apply iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes, allowing it to heat evenly.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Insert a second opening pick into the bottom right corner.

  • Rotate the pick around the bottom right corner to loosen the adhesive.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

  • Move your opening pick to the bottom left corner and use it to separate the adhesive.
  • Keep the pick in place at the bottom left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Position the opening pick at the bottom left corner and rotate it.

  • The goal is to separate the adhesive.
  • Continue rotating until the adhesive is loose.

Step 10 | Separate the left adhesive

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
  • Move the pick toward the top left corner, sliding it to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Heat an iOpener and apply it to the top edge of the back cover for two minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the corner adhesive

  • Insert a 4th opening pick into the top left corner.
  • Rotate the pick around the top left corner to loosen the adhesive.

Step 13 | Separate the top adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick across the adhesive to separate it.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent reseal.

Step 14 | Separate the flash adhesive

Avoid pushing against the rear cameras to prevent lens damage.

  • Align the tip of an opening pick with the flash cutout.
  • Slide the pick under the back cover's top edge until it hits adhesive.
  • The pick should be visible through the flash cutout at this point.
  • Continue sliding the pick toward the bottom until all adhesive is separated from the back cover.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • If stuck, slide an opening pick around the perimeter to separate.
  • During reassembly:
    • Power on and test all functions before sealing.
    • Ensure phone is powered down completely before continuing.

Remove adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers. Apply heat and isopropyl alcohol (90% or greater) if necessary.

  • For custom-cut adhesives, follow the respective guide.
  • For double-sided tape, follow the respective guide.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Bending or damaging the pins can cause permanent harm.

  • Use your spudger to pry up the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.
  • To reconnect, carefully align it and press one side down until it clicks. Repeat on the other side.

Do not press in the middle or misalign the connector, as this can bend the pins.

Step 17 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker screws

Remove the Phillips screwdriver. Use it to take out:

  • Six screws, securing the wireless charging coil.
  • Seven screws, securing the loudspeaker.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker

Locate the notch at the top left corner of the loudspeaker.

  • Insert a point of your spudger into the notch.
  • Pry up to unclip the loudspeaker from its frame.

  • Lift the loudspeaker away from the frame using your fingers.
  • Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker from the frame.
  • Press around the perimeter of the loudspeaker during reassembly to secure it in place.

Step 20 | Disconnect the battery

Use the tip of a plastic spudger to carefully pry up and release the battery press connector.

Step 21 | Disconnect the earpiece speaker

Insert the tip of a spudger into the earpiece speaker press connector.

  • Pry upward gently to release the connector.
  • Disconnect the earpiece speaker press connector from its socket.

Step 22 | Remove the earpiece speaker screws

  • Remove the five earpiece speaker screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
  • The screws are each 3.5 mm long.

Insert the flat end of your spudger between the bottom edge of the earpiece speaker and the silver shield on the motherboard.

Do not insert your spudger anywhere else to avoid dislodging fragile surface-mounted components.

  • Twist the spudger to unclip the earpiece speaker from the frame and remove it.
  • During reassembly, insert the top end of the earpiece speaker into the frame first before pressing down and clipping it back in.

Step 24 | Disconnect the interconnect cables

Disconnect the interconnect cable press connectors from the daughterboard using a spudger.

  • Pry up the primary connector.
  • Pry up the secondary connector.

  • Repeat the process for the primary interconnect cable and secondary interconnect cable connectors on the motherboard.

Step 26 | Remove the interconnect cables

Disconnect and remove both interconnect cables.

Remove the daughterboard screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • The screws are 3.5 mm long.
  • There are three screws to remove in total.

Use a spudger to carefully pry up the top right corner of the daughterboard.

  • Pry against the , not the battery.
  • Angle your spudger carefully before prying.
  • Remove the daughterboard.

Reinsert the USB-C port into its recess at an angle to avoid damage during reassembly.

  • Press the daughterboard flat onto the .

Step 29 | Disconnect the antenna

Risk of damaging nearby components: avoid prying on unnecessary edges.

  • Insert the spudger tip between the antenna press connector and motherboard shield, near the left edge.
  • Pry up to disconnect the antenna press connector carefully.

Step 30 | Disconnect the display and antenna cables

Use your spudger to gently pry up and release the display and 5G mmWave cable press connectors.

  • Pry up on the display connector first.
  • Release the 5G mmWave cable connector next.

Step 31 | Disconnect the front camera

Use a spudger to carefully release the front camera press connector.

Step 32 | Remove the motherboard screws

Remove the motherboard mounting screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are two screws to remove, each 3.5 mm long.
  • Locate the screws securing the motherboard.
  • Use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen and remove both screws.

Step 33 | Remove the motherboard

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger between the top edge of the motherboard and the frame, near the earpiece speaker cutout.
  • Twist the spudger carefully to lift the motherboard up and out of the frame until you can grip it with your fingers.

  • Remove the motherboard.
  • During reassembly, ensure all cables are secured before placing the motherboard back into the frame.

Step 34 | Remove the top 5G mmWave antenna

Insert the tip of the spudger into the notch between the top 5G mmWave antenna and the frame.

  • Pry up on the antenna to loosen the adhesive.
  • Lift the antenna to separate it from the frame.

Separate the top 5G mmWave antenna from its frame using your fingers.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive from the antenna.

Note: When reassembling, you may need to transfer the conductive tape under the antenna to your new part.

Avoid excessive force when removing the camera — risk of damage.

  • Apply gentle heat to the front camera using a hair dryer or heat gun for 90 seconds.
  • Verify movement before applying additional heat, as the adhesive is very strong.

Use a spudger's flat end to gently pry the front camera out of its recess.

  • If the camera remains stuck, use your SIM card eject tool to carefully scrape away any surrounding epoxy.

  • Use a spudger to gently lift the front camera from its recess.
  • Once accessible, carefully remove the front camera.

Step 39 | Remove the display cable

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully release the display cable press connector at the back of the screen.

  • Pry up on the connector using gentle pressure until it releases.
  • Once disconnected, lift out the display cable.

Step 40 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna screws

Remove the 2.5 mm long Phillips screws from the 5G mmWave antenna.

Step 41 | Remove the bottom 5G mmWave antenna

Insert one angled tweezers arm into the screw hole on the bottom 5G mmWave antenna bracket.

  • Pry up with the tweezers to lift the antenna bracket out of its recess.
  • Lift the bracket enough until you can grip it with your fingers.

Separate the bottom 5G mmWave antenna by lifting it out of its recess.

  • Break the adhesive holding the antenna in place.
  • Remove the 5G mmWave antenna from its mounting point.

Step 43 | Only the screen and battery assembly remains

Compare your new screen and battery assembly to the original to ensure accuracy.

  • Transfer all internal components from the old phone to the new assembly during reassembly.
