A fully charged lithium-ion battery may pose a safety risk, so allow it to drain below 25% or if swollen, take necessary precautions.

  • Unplug any cables from the phone.
  • Press and hold the side key and volume down button, then select "Power off" on the screen.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Avoid overheating the phone — risk of display and internal battery damage.

  • Apply an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep the temperature under control.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle near the right edge of the back cover.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • If a gap is difficult to create, apply more heat to soften the adhesive. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Risk of damage to rear cameras if they are touched or pushed.

  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the flash cutout, aligning it with the surrounding area.
  • Continue sliding the opening pick under the back cover until you feel resistance from the adhesive.
  • Slide the pick toward the bottom edge of the phone to separate the adhesive completely.

Avoid pushing against the rear cameras' lenses, as this can cause damage.
