Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra USB-C Port and Charging Board Replacement

Note that replacing the USB-C port and charging board will result in a loss of IP (Ingress Protection) rating.

  • Retain water resistance by carefully reapplying adhesive after the repair, but be aware of reduced IP rating.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Allow the phone's battery to deplete below 25% before proceeding, as a charged lithium-ion battery may pose a fire hazard.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Pull the power button and wait for it to shut down completely.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM card tray

Step 2 image

Accidental insertion into a microphone hole is unlikely to damage it.

  • Insert a SIM eject tool, bobby pin, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Press the tool into the SIM card tray hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.

Step 3 | Heat the right edge

Step 3 image

Avoid overheating the phone to prevent damage.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat.

Step 4 | Adhesive information

Step 4 image

Be aware that strong adhesive holds the back cover in place.

  • The adhesive is most secure around the frame's perimeter, especially in the bottom right and top left corners.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle to the back cover as close to the center of the right edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • If trouble occurs, apply more heat following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 6 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
  • Slide the pick back and forth along the right edge to detach the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick near the bottom right corner after detachment to prevent reattachment.

Step 7 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 7 image

Apply iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 8 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 8 image

Careful not to crack the glass at the bottom right corner.

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner.
  • Angle the pick upward, matching the curved edge.
  • Rotate it around the corner for thorough access.

Step 9 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 9 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
  • Insert an opening pick into the device and slide it to the bottom left corner.
  • The pick will separate the adhesive, so leave it there to prevent the adhesive from reattaching.

Step 10 | Heat the left edge

Step 10 image

Use a iOpener and apply heat to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 11 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 11 image

Avoid damaging the glass near the corners by rotating the pick carefully.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of the device.
  • Align the pick with the curved edge and rotate it slowly around the corner.
  • Proceed with caution when working near corners to prevent glass cracking.

Step 12 | Separate the left adhesive

Step 12 image

Do not push the pick more than 5 mm to avoid damaging the antenna flex cable or power button cable.

  • Slide your opening pick along the left edge until you reach the power button.
  • Leave the pick in place at the left edge to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 13 | Heat the top edge

Step 13 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 14 | Separate the corner adhesive

Risk of glass breakage — handle with care.

  • Insert an opening pick at the top right edge.
  • Angle the pick upward, following the curved edge.
  • Rotate the pick around the top right corner.

Step 15 | Separate the top adhesive

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the pick into the device at the top left corner to begin separating the adhesive.

Do not insert the pick more than 4 mm, as this may cause damage to cameras or sensors.

Leave the pick in place to prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.

Step 16 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a pick into the top left gap.

  • Limit insertion depth to 4 mm to avoid damaging cameras.
  • Angle the pick upward to match the curved edge, then rotate around the corner.

Step 17 | Separate the remaining adhesive

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the pick up to 4 mm only.

  • Slide the pick toward the bottom camera.
  • Continue until the adhesive is fully separated.
  • Avoid reaching the power button and camera components.

Inserting the pick too far may damage the cameras.

Step 18 | Remove the back cover

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 3

Remove the back cover. If stuck, use an opening pick to separate it from the frame.

  • Power on and test your phone's functions during reassembly.
  • Remember to power down completely before continuing work.
  • Remove any adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers. Apply heat if needed.

Be cautious when handling hot tools and adhesives — risk of burns and skin irritation.

  • For custom-cut adhesives, refer to the specific guide.
  • For double-sided tape, follow the designated instructions.

Step 19 | Disconnect the NFC antenna and charging coil

Step 19 image

Careful alignment is crucial to avoid damaging press connectors.

  • Use the pointed end of a spudger to disconnect the NFC antenna press connector from the motherboard.
  • Similarly, disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector using the spudger's pointed end.

When re-attaching, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other. Avoid pressing in the middle to prevent pin bending.

Step 20 | Separate the coil adhesive
