Galaxy S23 Ultra Battery Replacement

Your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra's lithium-ion battery has a limited lifespan and may need replacement if it dies quickly or doesn't hold a charge.

  • To replace just the battery, follow this guide.
  • For a more comprehensive repair, including replacing the screen and battery assembly (frame, screen, and battery), use this guide as well.

Note: After the repair, your device will lose its IP (Ingress Protection) rating due to compromised water resistance unless you carefully reapply adhesive.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Ensure the phone's battery is low (< 25%), as a charged lithium-ion battery may ignite during the repair.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Completely shut down the phone.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution: overheating can damage the display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Adhesive information

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Identify areas where adhesive secures the back cover along the frame.

  • The adhesive is particularly strong at the bottom right and top left corners.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle to the back cover, centered on the right edge.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat to soften adhesive; follow iOpener instructions for caution against overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 5 image

  • Slide a tool along the right edge, moving it back and forth, to break apart the adhesive.
  • Leaving the tool in place near the bottom right corner will help prevent the adhesive from reforming.

Step 6 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 6 image

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 7 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 7 image

Work carefully when handling the corners due to fragile glass.

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner.
  • Angle it upward, matching the curved edge, and rotate around the corner.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner to break the adhesive seal.

Leave the pick in the bottom left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing again.

Step 9 | Heat the left edge

Step 9 image

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 10 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 10 image

Careful handling required near corners — risk of glass breakage.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
  • Angle the pick upward, matching the curved edge.
  • Rotate the pick around the bottom left corner to prevent damage.

Step 11 | Separate the left adhesive

Step 11 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Slide your opening pick along the left edge until it reaches the power button.

  • Make sure the pick only goes up to 5 mm deep, as going further may damage cables.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent adhesive resealing.

Step 12 | Heat the top edge

Step 12 image

Apply heat to the top edge of the iPad's back cover using a heated iOpener for 2 minutes.

Insert opening pick into top right gap.

  • Angle the pick upward to match curved edge.
  • Rotate it around top right corner.

Glass is fragile here — work slowly and carefully to avoid cracking.

Step 14 | Separate the top adhesive

Step 14 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert a pick tool into the device, sliding it towards the top left corner to separate the adhesive.

  • Limit the insertion depth to 4 mm to avoid damaging cameras or sensors.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 15 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 15 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert an opening pick in the top left edge, only going up to 4mm to avoid damaging the cameras.

  • Angle the pick upward to match the curved edge.
  • Rotate it around the top left corner.

Step 16 | Separate the remaining adhesive

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 2

Risk of damaging the cameras — only insert picks up to 4 mm.

  • Slide the pick toward the bottom camera.
  • Continue until you reach the remaining adhesive, stopping just before the power button.

Step 17 | Remove the back cover

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Grab and remove the back cover.

  • If still attached, use an opening pick to carefully separate the cover from the frame.
  • During reassembly, power on your phone and test functions before sealing.
  • Power down completely before continuing work.

Remove any remaining adhesive with tweezers or fingers; apply heat if necessary.

  • For custom-cut adhesives, follow the provided guide.
  • For double-sided tape, refer to the specified instructions.

Step 18 | Disconnect the NFC antenna and charging coil

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the NFC antenna press connector from the motherboard.

  • Repeat for the wireless charging coil press connector.

To re-attach, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other. Do not press the middle.

Avoid misaligned connections which can cause pin damage and permanent harm.

Step 19 | Separate the coil adhesive

Step 19 image

Insert an opening pick between the top edge of the wireless charging coil and the frame.

  • Slide the pick toward the right edge to separate the remaining adhesive.

Step 21 | Unfasten the NFC antenna and charging coil

Step 21 image

Remove the NFC antenna and charging coil using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are five screws, each measuring 3.5 mm long.
  • Identify and remove all screws to access the component.

Step 22 | Unfasten the loudspeaker

Step 22 image

Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • The screws are 6 in total, each with a diameter of 3.5 mm.

Step 23 | Unclip the loudspeaker

Step 23 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the pointed end of your spudger between the upper right corner of the loudspeaker and the frame.

  • Pry up to unclip the loudspeaker from the frame, avoiding the battery.
  • For leverage, use protrusions in the frame.

Do not apply excessive force against the battery — risk of damage.

  • During reassembly, press around the perimeter of the loudspeaker to clip it back into place.

If tabs do not fold easily, tape them under the phone screen for secure hold.

  • Grip the blue center pull tab with your free hand and pull straight up firmly to separate the battery adhesive.
  • If adhesive does not release immediately, continue pulling with consistent force until battery comes free from frame.

Apply 1-2 drops of high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol to the left edge of the battery if still stuck.

  • Lift the left edge of your phone and wait one minute for the alcohol to soften the adhesive.

Place the battery over the right edge of your phone.
