  • Disconnect all external cables from the phone.
  • Press and hold the side key and volume down button, then select "Power off" to shut down the device.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Do not apply excessive heat as it can cause damage to the display and battery.

  • Apply heat (with an iOpener or alternative tool) to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.
  • Softening the adhesive will make it easier to remove the cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Slide a pick back and forth along the right edge to loosen the adhesive.

Do not remove the pick, as this can cause the adhesive to reseal.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 5 image

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Thumbnail 3

There's a remaining patch of adhesive directly under the flash.

  • Line up the tip of an opening pick with the flash cutout.
  • Slide the opening pick under the top of the back cover until it starts to snag on the adhesive.
  • You should see the opening pick through the flash cutout. Keep sliding the pick toward the bottom of the phone until you feel the adhesive completely separate from the back cover.

Avoid touching the rear cameras with your pick; pushing against the lenses risks damaging them.

Thumbnail 3

Remove the back cover.

  • If stuck, use an opening pick to gently pry around the edges until it separates completely.

Power on your phone and test all functions before closing, then power down when done.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers.
  • If stuck, apply heat and 90%+ isopropyl alcohol to assist removal.

For custom-cut adhesives, follow the specific guide.

For double-sided tape, refer to its dedicated guide.
