Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus Battery Replacement

Replacing a worn-out or dead battery may void your phone's water damage warranty. If your Samsung Galaxy S23+ has a swollen battery, take precautions to avoid injury and damage.

  • Determine if you're replacing the battery only or the entire screen and battery assembly (frame, screen, and battery).
  • Verify if your phone's rapid discharging is due to a worn-out battery.

Before starting, note that reapplying back cover adhesive will affect water resistance and IP rating.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

A charged lithium-ion battery can be a safety hazard — drain it below 25% if possible.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Hold the side key and volume down button, then select "Power off" to shut down your phone.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Apply heat to the right edge of the back cover using an iOpener for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

  • iOpener, or alternative heat tools (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate) may be used instead.
  • Be cautious not to overheat the phone, as the display and internal battery are vulnerable to thermal damage.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle as close to the center of the right edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and the frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat and follow the iOpener instructions carefully to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Slide a pick back and forth along the right edge to separate the adhesive.

Do not remove the pick yet, as leaving it near the bottom right corner will help prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 5 image

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 6 image

  • Insert an additional pick near the lower-right corner.
  • Pry tool: rotate it around the lower-right corner to loosen the adhesive.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 7 image

  • Insert the opening pick into the bottom left corner.
  • Slide the pick across the corner to break apart the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place at the bottom left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Step 8 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 9 image

Insert the opening pick into the bottom left corner and rotate it slowly.

  • This will help loosen the adhesive bond.

Step 10 | Separate the left adhesive

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick toward the top left corner to start separating the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Apply heat carefully, as high temperatures can damage components.

  • Use an iOpener and heat it until warm to the touch.
  • Place the iOpener along the top edge of the back cover for two minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the corner adhesive

Step 12 image

  • Insert an additional opening pick at the top left corner.
  • Rotate the new opening pick to break the adhesive seal.

Step 13 | Separate the top adhesive

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a pick into the top right corner and gently pry the adhesive apart.

  • Slide the pick along the edge of the device to separate the adhesive further.
  • Leave the pick in place, but do not apply excessive pressure, as this may cause damage.

Step 14 | Separate the flash adhesive

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Be careful not to damage the rear cameras, as pushing against their lenses can cause harm.

  • Position the opening pick at the flash cutout and slide it under the top edge of the back cover until it catches on the adhesive.
  • The tip of the opening pick should be visible through the flash cutout.
  • Continue sliding the pick downward until the adhesive is fully separated from the back cover.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image

Remove the back cover.

  • If it's still stuck, slide an opening pick around the perimeter to separate it completely.

Power on your phone and test all functions before reassembling, then power down completely.

Remove any adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers. Apply heat and 90%+ isopropyl alcohol if needed.

  • If using custom-cut adhesives, follow separate guide.
  • If using double-sided tape, follow separate guide.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 16 image
