Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus Back Cover Replacement

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Charged lithium-ion batteries can be a safety hazard — allow the battery to drain below 25% before disassembly.

If the battery is swollen, take necessary precautions to avoid damage or injury.

  • Disconnect any cables from your phone.
  • Press and hold the side key and volume down button simultaneously.
  • Select "Power off" on the screen to shut down your phone.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Careful not to overheating the phone: display and internal battery can suffer heat damage.

  • Apply heat (iOpener, hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate) to right edge of back cover for two minutes to soften adhesive.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply suction handle near center of right edge.

  • Pull up on suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • If trouble persists, apply more heat and follow iOpener instructions carefully.
  • Insert opening pick into the gap created.

Step 4 | Separate the right adhesive

Slide a pick along the right edge, moving it back and forth to separate the adhesive.

  • Leave the pick in place near the bottom right corner to prevent re-sealant.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Heat a iOpener and apply it to the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

  • Place a second pick at the bottom right corner.
  • Rotate the opening pick around the bottom right corner to break the adhesive.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Insert the opening pick into the bottom left corner and slide it along the edge to break the adhesive.

  • Hold the pick in place at the bottom left corner to prevent the adhesive from reforming.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Heat a iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Rotate the opening pick counterclockwise around the bottom left corner.

  • The screen should begin to separate from the case as you rotate.
  • Continue rotating until the adhesive is fully separated.

Step 10 | Separate the left adhesive

  • Insert a third opening pick into the bottom left corner.
  • Slide the pick toward the top left corner, separating the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Apply heat from an iOpentermee to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the corner adhesive

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner.

  • Rotate the pick around the top left corner to loosen the adhesive.

Step 13 | Separate the top adhesive

Slide the opening pick to the top right corner to break the adhesive seal.

  • Leave the pick in place at the top right corner to keep the adhesive from reforming.

Step 14 | Separate the flash adhesive

Locate a remaining patch of adhesive under the flash.

  • Align the tip of an opening pick with the flash cutout.
  • Slide the pick under the top edge of the back cover until it catches on the adhesive.
  • The pick should be visible through the flash cutout.
  • Continue sliding the pick downward until the adhesive separates completely from the back cover.

Avoid touching the rear cameras with your pick, as pushing against their lenses may cause damage.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • If the cover is still attached to the frame, use an opening pick to gently pry it loose around the edges.
  • During reassembly, test all phone functions by powering on and then immediately powering back down.

Before continuing, ensure the phone is fully powered down to prevent damage or electrical shock.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive with tweezers or your fingers.
  • If necessary, use heat and isopropyl alcohol (90% or greater) to loosen stubborn adhesives.

For custom-cut adhesives, follow the provided guide for proper removal. For double-sided tape, refer to the designated guidelines.
