Samsung Galaxy S22 Screen and Battery Assembly Replacement

Note that the IP rating may be lost due to incorrect adhesive application.

  • Determine if you have the correct screen and battery assembly part before proceeding.
  • This guide covers replacement of the screen, battery, and frame as a single unit.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM card tray

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the bottom edge of the phone.

Careful not to insert it into a microphone hole, which may cause damage (although this is unlikely).

  • Press the SIM eject tool into the SIM card tray hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Do not start repair with a charged lithium-ion battery as it may catch fire if damaged.

  • Allow your phone's battery to drain below 25% before proceeding.

Apply heat to the bottom edge of the back cover:

  • iOpener: Heat for two minutes on the area.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution to avoid overheating. Be careful not to damage the phone's display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Adhesive information

Step 3 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Identify the areas with strong adhesive at the bottom right and top left corners of the frame.

  • The adhesive surrounds the back cover along the perimeter.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle to the back cover as close to the bottom edge as possible.

Avoid overheating by following iOpener instructions carefully.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat to soften adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Step 5 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Slide a pick along the bottom edge, moving it back and forth to cut through the adhesive.

Do not remove the pick — this can cause the adhesive to seal again.

Step 6 | Heat the left edge

Step 6 image

Heat an iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 7 | Slice the left adhesive

Step 7 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom left corner of the device.
  • Do not insert more than 5 mm to avoid damaging the antenna flex cable or power button cable.

  • Slide the pick to the bottom of the camera bezel to cut the left adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 8 | Heat the right edge

Step 8 image

Apply heat from an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Slice the right adhesive

Step 9 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner.

  • If the adhesive has resealed, insert the pick closer to the bottom edge.
  • Slide the pick to the top right corner to slice the adhesive — risk of further damage if not done correctly.

  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 10 | Heat the top edge

Step 10 image

Apply heat from an iOpener to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 11 | Slice the remaining adhesive

Step 11 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick in the gap at the top right edge.

  • Slide the pick across the top edge and around the top left corner to slice the remaining adhesive.
  • Only insert the pick up to 4 mm, as you may damage the rear cameras or flash.

Step 12 | Remove the back cover

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Grab and remove the back cover.

  • If it's still stuck to the frame, use an opening pick to separate them by sliding it around the perimeter.

Power on your phone during reassembly to test functions, then turn it off completely before continuing.

  • Remove any leftover adhesive chunks with tweezers or your fingers. Apply heat if necessary for separation.
  • To apply new adhesive, follow this guide.

Step 13 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 13 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Use a spudger to disconnect the wireless charging coil from the motherboard.

  • To re-attach press connectors: carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press down in the middle

as this can cause pins to bend and result in permanent damage.

Step 14 | Unfasten the wireless charging coil
