Samsung Galaxy S22 Back Cover Replacement

Your device will lose its water-resistance and IP rating if not properly sealed afterwards.

  • Follow this guide to remove or replace the back cover on your Samsung Galaxy S22.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Do not start repair with a fully charged lithium-ion battery — risk of fire.

Let the phone's battery drain below 25% before proceeding.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate — however, be cautious not to overheat the phone:

Excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Identify adhesive areas on back cover.

  • The adhesive is strongest at the bottom right and top left corners.
  • The adhesive secures the back cover around the frame's perimeter.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the back cover near its bottom edge.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create space between the cover and frame.
  • If a gap doesn't form, apply more heat while following iOpener guidelines to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Slide the pick back and forth along the bottom edge, slicing through the adhesive.

  • Remove the pick except for the portion inserted in the bottom left corner to prevent reseal.

Step 5 | Heat the left edge

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Slice the left adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick down to slice the left adhesive.
  • Be cautious: only insert the pick up to 5 mm, as you may damage the antenna flex cable or the power button cable.

Leave the pick in to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 7 | Heat the right edge

Heat an iOpener until warm, then apply it to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 8 | Slice the right adhesive

Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner.

  • If the adhesive has resealed, insert the pick closer to the bottom edge.
  • Slide the pick to the top right corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 9 | Heat the top edge

Apply the iOpener to the top edge of the back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 10 | Slice the remaining adhesive

Insert a pick into the gap at the top right edge.

  • Slide the pick across the top edge and around the top left corner to remove adhesive.
  • Limit insertion depth to 4 mm to avoid damaging the rear cameras or flash.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • If still stuck, slide an opening pick around the perimeter.

Before reassembling: Power on your phone and test all functions; ensure complete power down before proceeding.

  • Remove adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers. Apply heat if needed.
  • For new adhesive, follow the separate guide.
