Discharging the battery before disassembly reduces the risk of a thermal event if the battery is damaged. If your battery is swollen, take precautions.
Note: Reapplying adhesive affects water resistance; device will lose IP rating.
Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the bottom edge of the phone.
Be cautious not to insert the tool into a microphone hole.
Accidental insertion into a microphone hole will likely not damage it, but proceed with caution if this occurs.
Allow your phone's battery to drain below 25% before starting this repair.
Identify the adhesive along the frame perimeter.
Apply a suction handle to the back cover near its center.
Slide a pick along the right edge, moving it back and forth to cut through the adhesive.
Leave the pick inserted at the bottom of the right edge to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Apply a iOpener preheated to an optimal temperature (not specified) to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.
Careful: Glass is particularly fragile at the corners.
Insert the opening pick into the bottom left corner and gently slide it downwards to cut the adhesive.
Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.
Careful not to crack the glass while slicing around the corners.
Leave the pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Apply heat to the iOpener until warm, then place along the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.
Be extremely cautious when approaching the corners — risk of glass cracking.
Insert the pick into the top left corner.
Insert the pick up to 4 mm only to avoid damaging the cameras.
Insert the pick up to 4 mm only to avoid damaging the cameras.
Remove the back cover.
If still stuck, use an opening pick to carefully pry it loose around the perimeter.
Remove any remaining adhesive chunks with tweezers or your fingers, applying heat if necessary.
Follow the respective guide for custom-cut adhesives or double-sided tape.
Be careful not to damage the display interconnect cable.
Use a spudger to pry and disconnect the NFC antenna press connector from the motherboard.
When re-attaching, align and press down on one side of the connector until it clicks into place. Repeat on the other side; do not press in the middle, as this may cause damage.
Remove the NFC antenna and charging coil using a Phillips screwdriver.
Remove the loudspeaker using a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert spudger between upper right corner of loudspeaker and frame.
Do not pry against battery — use protrusions in frame for leverage.
During reassembly, press around perimeter of loudspeaker to clip it to frame.
Remove the NFC module, wireless charging coil, and loudspeaker from the frame.
Note that the wireless charging coil is holding these parts in place.
Use the pointed end of your spudger to disconnect the battery press connector.
Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up and release the primary interconnect cable's connector from its socket on the motherboard.
Locate the primary interconnect cable's press connector.
Remove all interconnect cables from the frame.
Remove the charging board screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert the pointed end of your spudger under the charging board, opposite the USB-C port.
